Rings up fifth win Tuesday Castillo (5-1) recorded the win in a victory over the Orioles on Tuesday, firing a scoreless eighth inning during which he hit a batter and recorded a strikeout.
Impact Castillo played his setup role to near perfection, plunking Robinson Chirinos but still working out of the frame unscathed to preserve a scoreless tie at the time. Castillo was then rewarded for his 12th scoreless effort in his last 13 appearances when Jesse Winker plated a pair of runs with a double in the home half of the frame. Castillo is now 4-1 over his last five decisions, and his ERA (4.67) and WHIP (1.15) sit at their lowest figures since April 30 and April 24, respectively.

Gets fourth win Thursday Castillo (4-1) fired a perfect eighth inning in a win over the Athletics on Thursday, recording two strikeouts.
Impact The veteran reliever prevented the Mariners' 1-0 deficit from growing during his ultra-sharp frame, one in which he threw eight of 11 pitches for strikes. Castillo was then rewarded for his 10th scoreless effort in the last 11 appearances with his fourth win when the Mariners went ahead on two wild pitches in the top of the ninth and Paul Sewald slammed the door on the Athletics in the home half of the final frame. Castillo had allowed two runs (one earned) in his previous outing Saturday against the Angels, but he's largely righted the ship after a rocky first month-plus of the season by posting 3-1 record, three saves, one hold, a 1.88 ERA and 0.49 WHIP over his last 14.1 innings.
JUNE 24, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Extends scoreless streak Tuesday Castillo fired a perfect eighth inning in a win over the Twins on Tuesday, recording a strikeout.
Impact The veteran right-hander got through his one frame on a crisp 13 pitches, eight which found the strike zone. Castillo has rebounded from a brief rough stretch in the latter part of May to put together nine consecutive scoreless appearances, a sample during which he's allowed just one hit, posted a 16:1 K:BB, recorded two victories and saves apiece and lowered his ERA and WHIP from 9.00 and 2.15 to 5.09 and 1.30, respectively.
JUNE 15, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Strikes out side in ninth Castillo picked up the save Wednesday against Houston. He allowed zero runs on zero hits and zero walks while striking out three over one inning.
Impact Castillo entered with a three-run lead in the ninth inning to face the bottom of the Astros' order and struck out the side in en route to his fourth save of the season. Paul Sewald, who has been operating as the Mariners' top closing option, pitched in the eighth inning, but he had to face Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker and Yuli Gurriel. Despite Castillo getting the save opportunity over Sewald, it appears that Sewald is still the go-to guy for the highest-leverage moments.
JUNE 9, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Notches save Monday Castillo earned a save against the Astros on Monday, allowing one walk in a scoreless ninth inning.
Impact Paul Sewald has taken over primary closer duties for Seattle of late, but he had pitched three of the past four days entering Monday and appeared to be unavailable. Castillo stepped in to close the door, preserving a three-run ninth-inning lead and allowing only a two-out walk. The right-hander has three saves on the campaign, but this was his first since May 15. He's pitched seven consecutive scoreless innings but still has an ugly 5.85 overall ERA due to a few blowups.
JUNE 7, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Grabs third win Castillo (3-0) was credited with the win in an extra-inning victory over the Rangers on Sunday, allowing a hit and recording three strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.
Impact The veteran reliever extended his strong stretch of pitching with an ultra-sharp outing that saw him get 10 of his 14 offerings into the strike zone. Castillo has now strung together five straight scoreless appearances and accomplished the feat in seven of the last eight trips to the mound overall, with his last two outings also resulting in victories.
JUNE 6, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Impressive second win Thursday Castillo (2-0) was credited with the win in an extra-inning victory over the Orioles on Thursday, firing two perfect innings during which he recorded three strikeouts.
Impact Castillo got his six outs on an efficient 26 pitches and had no trouble protecting a one-run lead forged by the Mariners in the visitors' half of the 10th inning. The veteran reliever has seemingly rediscovered his form after a stretch where he allowed multiple earned runs in three of five appearances, following that rough patch up with five perfect frames across four outings during which he's generated an 8:0 K:BB.
JUNE 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Encouraging outing Monday Castillo earned his first hold by striking out the side in a perfect eighth inning during a win over the Athletics on Monday.
Impact Castillo's 18-pitch outing featured 13 strikes and a much-needed show of dominance from the struggling veteran. Castillo had allowed multiple earned runs in three of the previous five appearances but still has manager Scott Servais' trust to an extent, considering he was deployed as a set-up option Monday with Seattle holding a one-run lead.

Struggles continue Friday Castillo, who allowed two earned runs on two hits over two-thirds of an inning in a loss to the Red Sox on Friday, has now allowed multiple earned runs in three of his last five ap...
Impact There's 1.2 scoreless frames and a save nestled within that sample, which came in the two appearances immediately preceding Friday's stumble. However, Castillo has been faltering far too often for manager Scott Servais' and fantasy managers' liking of late, seemingly making him a shaky candidate for any consistent ninth-inning work for the time being.
MAY 21, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Earns save against Mets Castillo allowed no hits and a walk while striking out two in two-thirds of a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's win over the Mets.
Impact Drew Steckenrider earned the save Friday against the Mets and entered Sunday's game in the ninth inning to preserve a three-run lead. However, Castillo was brought into the game after Steckenrider gave up two runs on four hits and no walks in one-third of an inning. Castillo had given up nine runs in one inning over his last three appearances, but he held the Mets scoreless Sunday to pick up his second save of the year. Although it was encouraging to see the right-hander earn the save Sunday, the Mariners have used a pure committee-based approach for closing duties this season, and Castillo has had just two save opportunities.
MAY 16, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Hit hard in Monday's loss Castillo allowed three earned runs on five hits over two-thirds of an inning in a loss to the Phillies on Monday. He struck out one.
Impact Castillo has now put together back-to-back nightmarish appearances, as he also failed to record an out while giving up five earned runs to his old Rays squad Saturday. The sudden slump has ballooned Castillo's previously tidy 2.70 ERA to an unwieldy 9.28. While his career body of work strongly suggests he'll work himself out of the skid in short order, the veteran's one save and zero holds have dinged his fantasy value significantly over the first month-plus of the season.

Picks up first win Castillo (1-0) got the win during Saturday's 13-7 victory over the Royals, throwing a 1-2-3 eighth inning.
Impact Castillo entered a tie game in the eighth and required a surprising 20 pitches to get the three outs despite not allowing a baserunner and fell in line for the victory when Seattle posted a six spot on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning. The 28-year-old isn't operating in the closer role he's had in the past but is still producing with a 2.57 ERA and seven strikeouts in seven innings.
APRIL 24, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Scoreless in non-save scenario Castillo fired a scoreless ninth inning in a win over the Astros on Sunday, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.
Impact The veteran right-hander posted his third scoreless appearance over four trips to the mound this season, with manager Scott Servais giving him some work after Castillo had been idle since Thursday. The 28-year-old has been victimized by a dearth of save opportunities thus far, but he's at least been sharp right from the beginning of the season and should eventually see the ninth-inning opportunities start to come.
APRIL 18, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up save Castillo earned his first save of the season, striking out two in one inning of work in a 4-3 win Saturday in Minnesota.
Impact Castillo pitched a perfect ninth as the Mariners came back to win against the Twins. Drew Streckenrider was given the save opportunity in the season opener but Castillo was called upon to close out Saturday's game. The 28-year-old primarily served as a setup man after being traded to Seattle in mid-2021 and is in the mix to receive save chances. Time will tell who manager Scott Servais will rely on most in save situations.

Gets '22 deal from Seattle Castillo and the Mariners agreed Tuesday on a one-year contract to avoid arbitration.
Impact All of Castillo, Drew Steckenrider and Paul Sewald came to terms on deals to avoid arbitration, leaving the three primary candidates for saves out of the Seattle bullpen on the books for 2022. While splitting time between Tampa Bay and Seattle last season, Castillo delivered a 2.78 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 75:17 K:BB in 58.1 innings while converting 16 of 22 save chances.

Sharing saves again The Mariners will use a handful of relievers to close out games again this season, Jesse Borek of MLB.com reports. "We'll have a number of guys who will finish off games for us," m...
Impact Many expected Castillo to pick up more saves upon getting traded to the Mariners last summer, but the opposite occurred, as he converted only two save chances with his new team. Castillo still has good reliever skills, but he's competing with Paul Sewald, Drew Steckenrider and Ken Giles (elbow) for those precious save chances.

Earns win despite blown lead Castillo (5-5) got the win over the Athletics on Wednesday but allowed one run on one hit while striking out two over an inning.
Impact Castillo entered to pitch the top of the seventh with the Mariners clinging on to a 2-1 lead. He retired the first two batters he faced but then missed his location on a slider to Seth Brown, who connected on the pitch and sent it over the wall in right to tie the game. Fortunately, the Mariners were able to manufacture a run in the bottom half of the frame and held on until the end to award Castillo the win. The flame-throwing 27-year-old now has three wins, six holds and a save in 13 appearances this month and has settled in nicely in a setup role in front of Paul Sewald and Drew Steckenrider. Castillo has been very solid again this year, as he has a 2.81 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 73:17 K:BB over 57.2 innings.

Succeeding in set-up role Castillo, who secured his 10th hold against the Athletics on Thursday with a scoreless eighth inning during which he allowed a walk and a strikeout, has three holds overall in the...
Impact The big right-hander is just 2-for-5 in save opportunities since joining the Mariners at the trade deadline, and with more reliable ninth-inning options on hand for manager Scott Servais, Castillo has primarily transitioned back into the seventh- and eighth-inning role he often filled during his time with the Rays. The return to a healthy dose of set-up work has mostly agreed with Castillo, who's posted a 2-0 record, 1.93 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 11:2 K:BB and five holds over 9.1 innings in September.
SEPTEMBER 25, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Nabs fourth win Castillo (4-5) recorded the win in a victory over the Red Sox on Monday, firing a perfect seventh inning during which he recorded two strikeouts.
Impact The big right-hander was stellar after Logan Gilbert's six strong frames to open the contest. Castillo has been impressive since returning from a stay on the injured list due to a shoulder issue, as he's now posted scoreless efforts in four of the last five appearances while recording a pair of victories during that span.

Tampa Bay Rays wading into uncharted pitching territory with 13 closers
Collects third win Castillo (3-5) earned the win Wednesday over Houston. He allowed one hit and struck out three in a scoreless inning.
Impact Castillo did his part to keep the game tied at 4-4 in the eighth inning, and Seattle rallied for the lead in the ninth to make him a winner. The right-hander has logged three scoreless innings since he returned from right shoulder inflammation. Castillo owns a 2.77 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 62:15 K:BB through 48.2 innings this year. He's likely to continue to be in Seattle's closer committee with Paul Sewald and Drew Steckenrider.
SEPTEMBER 9, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Earns save in return to action Castillo picked up the save against the Diamondbacks on Saturday, pitching a scoreless inning during which he gave up one hit and didn't walk or strike out any batters.
Impact The right-hander was activated from the injured list earlier in the day and was thrown right into the fire with Seattle leading by three runs in the ninth inning. Castillo yielded a single to open his outing but then induced a foul out and a double play to close the contest. Though he was given the save chance Saturday, Castillo will likely share ninth-inning duties with Paul Sewald and Drew Steckenrider moving forward. Both relievers performed well in Castillo's recent absence, notching two saves apiece.
SEPTEMBER 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Returns from injured list Castillo (shoulder) was activated off the injured list Saturday.
Impact Castillo wound up missing two weeks with right shoulder inflammation. He's only recorded one save in 10 appearances for the Mariners since coming over from the Rays at the deadline, but he should be one of the team's top ninth-inning options down the stretch. Paul Sewald has saved eight games this season while striking out 41.0 percent of opposing batters en route to a 2.44 ERA, however, so Castillo could face stiff competition for save chances.
