Brenan Hanifee - Returning to big club
The Tigers recalled Hanifee from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
Impact
The move replenishes Detroit's bullpen after Beau Brieske (ankle) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Hanifee cracked the Tigers' Opening Day roster, and in seven appearances before being optioned to Triple-A on Tuesday, he posted a 2.25 ERA and 1.12 WHIP across eight innings.

Beau Brieske - Goes on IL with ankle injury
The Tigers placed Brieske on the 15-day injured list Friday with right ankle inflammation.
Impact
It's not clear how long the ankle has been bothering Brieske, but perhaps it has contributed to his 8.59 ERA in seven appearances this season. Brenan Hanifee is taking his spot on the roster and in the bullpen.

Trey Sweeney - Out of Friday's lineup
Sweeney is not in the Tigers' starting lineup against the Royals on Friday.
Impact
Sweeney has gone 3-for-11 with two RBI against left-handed pitching this season, but he'll begin Friday's contest in the dugout with the Royals sending southpaw Cole Ragans to the mound. Javier Baez will start at shortstop and bat seventh.

Ryan Kreidler - Not in Friday's lineup
Kreidler is not in the Tigers' starting lineup against the Royals on Friday.
Impact
Kreidler went 0-for-2 with two walks and one run scored in Thursday's contest, but he's recorded just one hit since April 4. He'll begin Friday's game in the dugout while Kerry Carpenter, Riley Greene and Zach McKinstry man the outfield.

Colt Keith - Idle vs. lefty
Keith is not in Detroit's starting lineup against Kansas City on Friday.
Impact
With the Royals sending southpaw Cole Ragans to the mound, the lefty-hitting Keith will begin Friday's contest in the dugout while Spencer Torkelson starts at first base and bats fifth. Keith is slashing .185/.343/.222 with 13 walks, seven runs scored and two RBI across 67 plate appearances to open the season.

Manuel Margot - Resumes running
Margot (knee) participated in sprint drills Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact
Margot was diagnosed with a patellar tendon strain in his left knee, which caused him to be placed on the 10-day injured list April 8. He appears to be progressing in his recovery running in the outfield, but he'll likely need to go on a rehab assignment before being activated from the IL. Prior to his injury, Margot went 6-for-20 with one run scored and three RBI.

Parker Meadows - Does some light throwing Friday
Meadows (arm) did some light throwing in the outfield Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact
It was very light tossing from a short distance, but it nonetheless seems to be a step forward for the outfielder. Meadows is coming back from a nerve issue in his right arm and will need to rebuild his arm strength. He's already on the 60-day injured list, making him ineligible to return until late May.

Beau Brieske - Yet to hit stride
Brieske, who allowed a run during an inning of relief in Thursday's 6-1 win over the Royals, has an 8.59 ERA so far this season.
Impact
Brieske has now allowed seven earned runs across 7.1 innings in 2025 and has only struck out four. Last year, the righty posted a 3.59 ERA and 69 strikeouts across 67.2 regular-season innings, emerging as one of Detroit's most dependable relievers. Brieske should be able to get back on track, though he'll need to start missing more bats to really get going.

Kerry Carpenter - Tallies three hits in win
Carpenter went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Thursday's 6-1 win over the Royals.
Impact
After sitting Wednesday with Kansas City starting southpaw Jose Quintana, Carpenter returned with a bang Thursday. The outfielder pushed his OPS up to a stellar .913, which is actually a bit below last year's .932 mark. Carpenter still rests often against lefties, but when a righty is on the mound, he's become one of the better offensive threats in the American League.

Riley Greene - Two RBI against Kansas City
Greene went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Thursday's 6-1 win over the Royals.
Impact
Greene logged just one hit and 18 strikeouts in his prior 32 at-bats, but he was more productive at the plate in Thursday's contest. All three of hits resulted in singles, the first two of which drove in runs in the third and fifth inning, respectively. Greene has struggled as of late, but his performance in the series opener may be a sign of things to come for the Tigers and the 24-year-old outfielder.

Tommy Kahnle - Logs third save
Kahnle tossed two scoreless innings in Thursday's 6-1 win over Kansas City to earn his third save of the season.
Impact
Kahnle inherited two baserunners when he was called in for the eighth inning, but he was able to force two-straight groundouts (the first of which resulted in a double play) to get out of the frame unscathed. He came back out for the ninth inning and needed just nine pitches to retire the side to register his third save of the 2025 campaign. Kahnle has a 1.29 ERA, 0.43 WHIP and 5:0 K:BB across seven innings to start the season.

Reese Olson - Tosses five shutout innings in win
Olson (2-1) earned the win against the Royals on Thursday, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five across five scoreless innings.
Impact
Olson allowed at least two baserunners in two of the five frames he pitched, but he managed to get out of those innings without yielding a run. The 25-year-old right-hander has won four straight games at Comerica Park dating back to the 2024 regular season, and through his first four starts in 2025 he's posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB across 20 innings. Olson's next start is slated for next week at home against the Padres.

Spencer Torkelson - Drives in three runs
Torkelson went 2-for-4 with one walk, one double and three RBI in Thursday's 6-1 win over the Royals.
Impact
Torkelson opened Thursday's scoring with a two-run double in the third inning, and he tallied a third RBI in the eighth frame when his single to center field brought Ryan Kreidler. Torkelson has logged at least one RBI in five of his last six games and has a 1.035 OPS over that span.
