Blows another save Bard (1-1) allowed one earned run on one hit and one walk while striking out none to blow the save Tuesday against the Giants. He was credited with the win.

Impact The Rockies took a one-run lead in the top of the ninth inning on a Garrett Hampson home run. However, Bard surrendered a solo homer of his own in the bottom of the inning to blow his second consecutive save chance. After starting the season with four scoreless outings, Bard has now allowed five earned runs across his last five appearances. This stumble likely isn't enough to cost him the closer job, but he'll need to correct his results quickly.

The 35-year-old cleaned things up with ease, sending Josh Rojas down on strikes before forcing Tim Locastro to ground out for the final out of the game. The save was the second of the year for Bard in four appearances for the Rockies.

Slated to begin year as closer Bard will serve as the Rockies' closer to begin the season, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.

Impact Manager Bud Black unsurprisingly said Friday that Bard would handle the ninth-inning duties to begin the season after he ended the 2020 campaign in the role. Right-hander Scott Oberg could compete for save chances once he builds back up to full strength after he underwent surgery to address thoracic outlet syndrome in September, but Bard will have the opportunity to secure the role early in the season. Bard converted on all six of his save chances in 2020 and posted a 3.65 ERA and 27:10 K:BB over 24.2 innings.
