Tallies ninth save Bard allowed one walk and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Saturday against Arizona.
Impact Bard entered the game with a three-run lead after Colorado rallied in the ninth inning. He allowed a leadoff walk, but he retired the next three batters he faced to record his ninth save of the season. Bard has turned in seven consecutive scoreless appearances, highlighted by a 9:1 K:BB. He has a strong grasp on the closer role in Colorado.

Shuts door again Bard allowed one hit across a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Thursday against the Nationals. He didn't have a strikeout or a walk.
Impact Bard worked around a one-out single to earn his eighth save of the season. He has turned in six consecutive scoreless outings, during which he's allowed only two hits and no walks while striking out eight. Despite losing the closer job in 2021, Bard has been excellent to begin the new campaign and now has a 1.80 ERA with a 13:0 K:BB across 10 frames.
MAY 6, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Collects another save Bard earned the save against the Nationals on Wednesday, pitching a perfect ninth inning during which he struck out two batters.
Impact Bard's inning got off to a promising start when he struck out Juan Soto, and the reliever closed things out from there by retiring the next two batters. The Rockies' closing situation wasn't set in stone entering the season, but Bard has run with the position by converting seven of eight opportunities. His numbers certainly look like those of a dominant closer, as he has posted a 2.00 ERA, 0.56 WHIP and 13:0 K:BB across nine innings.

Secures sixth save Bard struck out two in a perfect ninth inning against the Reds on Saturday en route to his sixth save of the season.
Impact Tasked with preserving a one-run lead, Bard made quick work of the Reds' 2-4 hitters, retiring the side in order on eight pitches (seven strikes). Bard now has a 2.25 ERA this season and is 6-for-7 in save chances. Alex Colome has grabbed a couple saves, but Bard looks like the clear No. 1 option in the Colorado bullpen.
MAY 1, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up save Bard earned the save, striking out one in the ninth inning in a 6-5 win Tuesday over the Phillies.
Impact Bard recorded his fifth save of the season after pitching a perfect ninth inning. He is now 5-for-6 in save chances on the season. The 36-year-old has notoriously struggled with his command throughout his year and allowed 4.9 BB/9 in 2021. This season, however, he has not yet allowed a walk while striking out seven in six innings of work. The Rockies are tied for first place and Bard is tied for the National League lead in saves.

Notches save No. 4 Bard picked up the save during Saturday's 9-6 win against the Cubs, allowing one hit with one strikeout in the ninth inning.
Impact Bard allowed a two-out single before striking out Willson Contreras to nail down his second save in as many nights. The outings haven't been as dominant since he struck out the side in his first appearance, but the 36-year-old has yet to err, with a save or win in all five appearances for the up-start Rockies.
APRIL 17, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Earns save Friday Bard recorded the save Friday against the Cubs despite giving up one run on two hits across one inning. He struck out one and tossed a wild pitch.
Impact Bard gave up an RBI double to Patrick Wisdom and had a runner on third with two outs, but he closed things out when Michael Hermosillo popped out to second base. Bard three saves in four chances and has given up runs in two of his four outings to date.
APRIL 16, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Locks down second save Bard saved Tuesday's 4-1 triumph over the Rangers, allowing a hit and HBP in a scoreless ninth inning.
Impact One night after blowing the save, Bard was able to work out of a 2-on-1-out jam to secure the Colorado victory. The 36-year-old should see increased save opportunities in the early going with a Colorado off to a hot start.
APRIL 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Blows save chance Bard (1-0) allowed a solo home run in the ninth inning to blow the save, though he also was awarded a win, Monday against Texas.
Impact Bard entered the game in the ninth inning with a one-run lead. He retired the first two batters he faced but allowed a pinch-hit solo home run to Willie Calhoun to blow his first save of the season. The Colorado offense picked him up one inning later, so Bard did manage to secure a win despite the stumble. Though early, Bard has been used in each of the Rockies' save situations to this point in the campaign, so assuming he can keep the ball in the yard he appears to be the preferred closer.
APRIL 12, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Earns save Saturday Bard was credited with the save Saturday against the Dodgers after striking out the side.
Impact Bard entered the game in the ninth with a one-run lead and while he needed 17 pitches to get the job done, 11 of those were strikes and he ended striking out the side after facing Justin Turner, Edwin Rios and Cody Bellinger. He's expected to begin the year in a closer committee, but this was clearly a step in the right direction to gain the job on a regular basis.

Likely to begin year in committee Bard will likely be part of a three-man closing committee to begin the regular season, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Bard avoided arbitration with the Rockies in late November by agreeing to a one-year, $4.4 million deal, but the team also brought in Alex Colome during the offseason, while Carlos Estevez is also in the mix. Bard saw plenty of ninth-inning work last year and converted 20 of 28 save chances with a 5.21 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 65.2 innings across 67 appearances. The 36-year-old struggles against left-handed hitters, and manager Bud Black indicated Wednesday that he'll be able to ride the hot hand among the three pitchers since none of them have very expensive contracts. While Bard should get a chance at some ninth-inning duties early in the year, he'll need to improve against lefties if he hopes to remain in the committee.
MARCH 31, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Remains with Rockies Bard re-signed with the Rockies on a one-year, $4.4 million deal, avoiding arbitration,Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Impact Bard's major-league career began back in 2009, but he was still eligible for arbitration thanks to his long time away from the majors from 2014 to 2019. He saved 20 games for the Rockies last season but was removed from the closer role late in the year, finishing with a 5.21 ERA, a mark which isn't good even after adjusting for Coors Field. Depending on who the Rockies bring in over the winner, it's possible he works his way back into the ninth inning next season, but he'll be a lower-tier closer at best even if that happens.
NOVEMBER 30, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Allows three runs in loss Bard (7-8) allowed three earned runs on one hit and two walks while striking out two across two-thirds innings, taking the loss to the Giants on Sunday.
Impact Bard entered the ninth inning in a tie game, but quickly surrendered the lead. He allowed two walks and a single before being relieved by Tyler Kinley. Kinley gave up a three-run homer to Brandon Crawford, which allowed the other two runners that Bard was responsible for to score. Bard broke his streak of seven straight appearances without allowing a run. He has a 5.40 ERA and 1.67 WHIP with 76 strikeouts in 61.2 innings this season.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Eighth-inning meltdown Bard (7-7) took the loss in Saturday's 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks without recording an out.
Impact One day after Bud Black stated Bard was no longer the team's closer, Bard validated his manager's decision by permitting four baserunners and three runs without getting any outs. He's now surrendered multiple runs in three of his last four appearances and owns an 11.42 ERA in 8.2 August innings.
AUGUST 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Dropped from closer's role Manager Bud Black said after Friday's win over the Dodgers that Bard is no longer the Rockies' closer, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.
Impact The veteran right-hander pitched the eighth inning Friday while Carlos Estevez picked up the save, and the skipper confirmed the role change after the contest. Bard delivered a scoreless frame as a setup man to earn a hold, but he surrendered eight earned runs and had two blown saves over his previous five appearances to lose the job. He could end up receiving another look in the ninth inning if he can get back on track, but for now it appears Estevez will be the top option for saves in Colorado.
AUGUST 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Yields walkoff homer Bard (7-6) gave up a two-run homer and recorded one strikeout in Monday's loss to the Cubs.
Impact Bard entered a 4-4 game in the ninth inning and gave up a walkoff shot to Rafael Ortega, giving him his sixth loss of the year. He's allowed five runs over his last 3.1 innings, raising his season ERA to 4.68. It was Bard's first loss since July 6 and he's still 20-for-27 in save chances on the year.
AUGUST 24, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Earns win after blown save Bard (6-5) allowed three runs on three hits over one inning Monday, striking out one and earning a win over the Padres.
Impact Bard allowed a pair of singles to start the ninth inning and, after retiring the next two batters, served up a game-tying, three-run blast to Trent Grisham. He had converted his last four save opportunities but fell to 19-for-26 after Monday's mishap. On the bright side, he was granted the win after C.J. Cron walked it off in the bottom of the ninth. Bard's ERA is up to 4.53 alongside a 61:21 K:BB through 47.2 innings.
AUGUST 17, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Notches 19th save Bard fired a scoreless ninth inning on one hit while striking out two to earn the save in the win over the Giants on Saturday.
Impact Bard struck out WIlmer Flores to end the game Saturday. He has four straight saves and hasn't allowed a run over his last five appearances. On the season, he has a 4.05 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with 60 strikeouts in 46.2 innings. With his 19 saves, he is in the top 10 in the National League.
AUGUST 15, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Secures 18th save Bard earned the save over the Marlins on Saturday, pitching a scoreless inning during which he allowed one hit and struck out one.
Impact With the Rockies ahead by three runs in the ninth inning, the team turned to Bard to close things out against Miami. The right-hander allowed a one-out single but nothing else en route to his 18th save. Bard has had some struggles this season but has held on to the closer job by successfully converting 18 of 24 save opportunities and posting a 58:21 K:BB along with a 4.14 ERA over 45.2 innings. He's blown only one save over his past nine chances dating back to June 28.
AUGUST 8, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Tallies 17th save Bard did not allow a baserunner and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Thursday against the Cubs.
Impact Bard was tasked with protecting a one-run lead, and he retired Sergio Alcantara, Danny Duffy and Rafael Ortega in order to record his 15th save. Bard appears to be returning to form after allowing five earned runs across three innings in three appearances between July 23 and July 31. However, he now has two consecutive scoreless appearances. For the season, Bard has a 4.23 ERA with 57 strikeouts across 44.2 innings.
AUGUST 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Locks down 16th save Bard pitched the ninth inning in Saturday's 5-3 win against San Diego, allowing one run on two hits but escaping with the save.
Impact Bard entered in the ninth to protect a three-run lead and surrendered a leadoff double to Jurickson Profar, who eventually came around to score, but Bard was ultimately able to secure the victory. The 36-year-old hasn't quite lived up to his 2020 comeback with a high 4.43 ERA, but at least he has 16 saves, ranking 16th in baseball.
AUGUST 1, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Blows save but earns win Bard (5-5) blew a save chance Friday but ended up earning the win after allowing a run on two hits and two walks while striking out three over an inning against the Dodgers.
Impact Bard entered in the ninth trying to protect a one-run lead but allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases before he walked Justin Turner to knot the game up. He would then go on to strike out the next three batters to get out of the jam and extend the game. The Rockies would end up scoring three runs in the 10th, giving Bard his fifth win of the year. The 36-year-old owns a 3.98 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 53:20 K:BB and has 15 saves over 40.2 innings this year.
