INJURIES

Falls to Atlanta Sanchez (2-5) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk over four innings against Atlanta. He struck out two.
Impact It was another rough outing for Sanchez, who's now allowed seven runs on 15 hits in his last two outings (11.1 innings), both against Atlanta. Overall, the 26-year-old southpaw sports a 3.55 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP and 85:15 K:BB across 17 starts (91.1 innings) this season. Sanchez is currently slated for a home matchup with the Mets in his next outing, though he could be set up for another "tandem start" with Michael Lorenzen.
SEPTEMBER 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Set for tandem start Sanchez is expected to be piggybacked by Michael Lorenzen in his next scheduled start Tuesday in Atlanta, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Impact With the Phillies likely to pare down their six-man rotation to five as the regular season winds down, Lorenzen looks set to make his first appearance as a reliever since the 2021 season. Sanchez will keep his rotation spot over Lorenzen for now, but both pitchers could be moved to the bullpen once the postseason begins. With manager Rob Thomson not clarifying exactly how long he plans to have Sanchez work before giving way to Lorenzen, Sanchez could struggle to reach the five innings he would need to qualify for a win. Sanchez would tentatively line up for his second start of the week next Sunday against the Mets, but he could be piggybacked by Lorenzen for that game, too.

Goes five scoreless in no decision Sanchez did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing four hits and one walk over five scoreless innings against Miami. He struck out four.
Impact Following an eight-day layoff since his previous start, Sanchez kept the Marlins off the board and left the game in line for the win. However, the Phillies' bullpen allowed three runs to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Sanchez has now allowed two or fewer runs in 10 of his 15 starts this season. He'll carry an ERA of 3.26 into his next start, currently scheduled to take place mid-week in an important home series against Atlanta.

Phillies Notebook: Cristopher Sanchez looks steady again, but not for the long haul Phillies starter pulled a tad early after largely cruising through five-innings

Struggles in no-decision Sanchez did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits over 4.2 innings against the Angels. He struck out five.
Impact It looked like Sanchez had found his rhythm after giving up a two-run homer to Hunter Renfroe in the top of the second as the left-hander followed up the mistake by hurling two scoreless frames. However, things unraveled for him in the fifth after he allowed back-to-back hits to open the inning, which then led to three runs coming across for Los Angeles. Sanchez had gone six innings in three straight starts coming in and it was the first time he failed to make it through at least five frames since June 17. On a positive note, he has not issued a walk in each of his last three outings and has now recorded at least five strikeouts in five straight.
AUGUST 31, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Quality start leads to second win Sanchez (2-3) earned the win Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and zero walks over six innings against St. Louis. He struck out six.
Impact Sanchez climbed into a hole early, allowing a one-out two-run homer to Paul Goldschmidt in the first, but then settled down to not allow another run throughout the remainder of his outing. Sanchez has provided quality innings for the Phillies this year, allowing three or fewer runs in 12 of 13 starts. He'll take an ERA of 3.33 into his next start, which is currently scheduled to take place Wednesday afternoon at home against the Angels.

Cristopher Sanchez throws 6 innings to help Phillies beat Cardinals 7-2

Quality start against Nats Sanchez came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 12-3 win over the Nationals, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits over six innings. He struck out five without walking...
Impact The southpaw delivered his second straight quality start on an efficient 78 pitches (54 strikes), but Sanchez actually exited the game in line for his fourth loss as the Phillies didn't even get on the board until the top of the seventh inning. With Ranger Suarez (hamstring) on the shelf, Sanchez's spot in the rotation is secure for now, but he was already making a strong case to hang onto the assignment -- since the All-Star break, he's posted a 3.69 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 36:8 K:BB through 39 innings. His next turn is likely to come at home next weekend against the Cardinals.

Cruises to first win Sanchez (1-3) picked up the win in Friday's 13-2 rout of the Twins, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out five.
Impact After Sanchez failed to get into the win column in his first 10 starts of the season, the Phillies' offense made sure this decision wasn't going to be in any doubt. The quality start was the fourth of the year for the 26-year-old lefty, but both runs off Sanchez came on solo homers, and he's now served up 11 long balls in his last 50 innings. His overall stinginess has minimized the damage, however -- over that stretch, he has a 3.42 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB. With two off days coming up next week, the Phillies may not continue rolling with a six-man rotation, so despite his effectiveness as a starter in 2023, Sanchez's next appearance could come in long relief.

Throws five no-hit innings Sanchez did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two walks over five hitless innings against the Pirates. He struck out three.
Impact Sanchez also hit three batters before departing the game after five innings without allowing a hit. The 26-year-old left-hander has still yet to earn a win this season despite pitching to a 2.12 ERA over his last six starts. Overall, Sanchez is 0-3 with a 2.66 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 41:8 K:BB across nine starts (47.1 innings) this season. He'll look to get in the win column in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week against Kansas City.

Punches out eight in no-decision Sanchez did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing two runs on four hits over seven innings in a 3-2 loss against the Orioles. He struck out eight.
Impact Sanchez was excellent Monday, setting a new career high with eight strikeouts while allowing just two runs on a pair of solo homers. Despite his 0-3 record, the 26-year-old left-hander has been solid for the Phillies of late, posting a 2.48 ERA over his last five starts. Sanchez now sports a 2.98 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP and 38:6 K:BB through eight starts (42.1 innings) this season. He's currently lined up to make his next start Sunday against the Pirates.

Settles for no-decision Wednesday Sanchez didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Brewers, giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out three.
Impact An Edmundo Sosa error in the second inning contributed to a three-run inning for Milwaukee, but Sanchez otherwise held the Brewers in check and saw his offense tie the game up before he left the mound. The southpaw has worked at least five innings and allowing three runs or fewer in five straight starts, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 20:3 K:BB through 27 innings over that stretch as he helps steady the back of the Phillies' rotation. Sanchez's next outing lines up at home early next week against the Orioles.
JULY 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Takes loss to Padres Sanchez (0-3) took the loss Friday, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk over five innings against the Padres. He struck out five.
Impact The lefty came into this one riding high, having posted a 2.84 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 22:4 K:BB over his first five starts for the Phillies this season (25.1 innings). He was brought down a peg Friday, though it was still a respectable showing, with all the damage being done on a pair of long balls. There's streaming appeal here, but Sanchez will need to keep it up in order to maintain his starting job after the trade deadline. The Phillies are in the mix for a wild-card spot and could add a starting pitcher.
JULY 15, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Another strong outing Sanchez did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing one run on four hits over six innings against the Rays. He struck out two.
Impact Sanchez's lone blemish came in the fifth inning, where he served up a leadoff home run to Isaac Paredes that tied the game. Outside of the long ball, Sanchez had little issues with the second best team in baseball, holding them to just four total hits across six innings to log his second consecutive quality start. Since being called up for his second MLB stint of 2023 in mid-June, Sanchez owns a 2.14 ERA and a 17:2 K:BB across four starts (21 innings). He'll have nearly two weeks of rest before his next projected start, which is expected to come during a three-game homestand against Milwaukee.
JULY 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Takes loss despite quality start Sanchez (0-2) took the loss Friday, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings against the Nationals. He struck out six.
Impact Sanchez finished with season highs in inning completed and strikeouts, but he still took a second consecutive loss after not getting enough run support. The 26-year-old hasn't been flashy, but he's getting results, posting a 3.26 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB across 19.1 innings. Sanchez figures to remain in the rotation going forward if he can continue to put up solid numbers.
JULY 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Tagged with first loss Sanchez (0-1) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on five hits over five innings as the Phillies fell 4-2 to the Mets. He struck out four without walking a batter.
Impact Making his third big-league start of the season, Sanchez completed five innings for the first time while tossing 52 of his 75 pitches for strikes in a solid effort. The southpaw has a 3.00 ERA and 9:1 K:BB in nine innings since rejoining the Phillies' roster last weekend, putting him on track to make his next start at home next weekend against the Nationals.
JUNE 25, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Set for Friday start Sanchez (hand) is set to take his next scheduled turn in the Phillies' rotation Friday against the Mets, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Impact Sanchez took a comebacker off his left hand Saturday in Oakland, but X-rays turned up clean for any structural damage and he'll be ready to toe the slab in Friday's series opener versus New York. The 26-year-old southpaw has pitched to a 3.24 ERA with 10 strikeouts through two major-league starts (8.1 innings) this season for Philly.

On track for next start Sanchez is dealing with some soreness in his left hand but is expected to make his next turn through the rotation Friday versus the Mets, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer...
Impact The 26-year-old exited Saturday's outing in Oakland after being struck by a comebacker, but he appears to have avoided a notable injury with X-rays coming back negative. The Phillies have a scheduled day off Monday, so Sanchez could also be pushed back in the rotation a couple days without the team needing to add another starter.
JUNE 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
X-rays return negative X-rays returned negative on Sanchez's left hand, and he's expected to make his next start, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Impact Sanchez was hit in the hand/wrist area by a comebacker against the Athletics, and while he initially stayed in the contest, the left-hander exited after completing four scoreless innings. Sanchez should still be considered day-to-day, but it does sound like he'll be on the mound in next week; likely against the Mets on Friday.

JUNE 17, 2023 • NEWSOBSERVER.COM
Promoted ahead of start The Phillies recalled Sanchez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Impact Sanchez will be making his second major-league start of the season Saturday against Oakland. The 26-year-old lefty surrendered three earned runs on five hits while striking out five batters over the course of 4.1 frames in his first start against the Rockies in April. He also holds a 1.50 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across his last three minor-league starts, so it's possible his momentum carries over into the bigs. Luis Ortiz was optioned to Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move.
JUNE 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Confirmed for start Saturday Sanchez will start Saturday's game versus the Athletics, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Impact This was tipped off by Sanchez not being listed by Triple-A Lehigh Valley as a member of their rotation, and it's confirmed now that the southpaw will get the start versus Oakland over the weekend. The left-hander has registered a uninspiring 4.35 ERA, 44:29 K:BB and 1.45 WHIP over 49.2 innings in the minors, but he does get a friendly landing spot against the Oakland lineup.
JUNE 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Could be promoted Saturday Sanchez could be called up to start for the Phillies on Saturday at Oakland, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Impact Sanchez is no longer listed in the rotation at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, so he's probably getting promoted in some capacity. The 26-year-old left-hander missed the first three weeks of the 2023 season due to a triceps strain and has since registered a 4.35 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 44:29 K:BB across 49.2 innings in the International League.
JUNE 15, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sent down after spot start The Phillies optioned Sanchez to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday.
Impact Due to a doubleheader earlier this week, the Phillies were in need of a temporary sixth starter, so Sanchez was activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Saturday's game against the Rockies to fill the void. Though he didn't appear to be hindered in his return from a left triceps strain after making two minor-league rehab starts prior to being activated, Sanchez was capped at 73 pitches and gave up three runs while striking out five over 4.1 innings en route to taking a no-decision in the Phillies' 4-3 loss to Colorado. Sanchez will now head back to Triple-A to continue getting stretched out, but he looks like he'll be the Phillies' top option to make spot starts if the team should lose another rotation member to the IL at some point.
APRIL 23, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Early exit against Rockies Sanchez didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over Colorado, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out five.
Impact Making his first big-league appearance of the season after recovering from a triceps strain, the 26-year-old southpaw was able to last 73 pitches (46 strikes) and exited the game with the score tied 3-3. Sanchez was likely only making a spot start, but it's not clear whether he'll head back to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after this outing or whether he'll remain in the Phillies' bullpen as a long relief option.
