Impact Stammen's throwing error allowed Austin Barnes to reach second base in the seventh inning. Reliever Tim Hill then allowed the inherited runner to score on an A.J. Pollock double, which was the decisive run Tuesday. Stammen has been inconsistent in 2020, allowing four runs (three earned) over 5.2 innings. The 36-year-old is likely to continue seeing work in the late innings for the Padres despite his recent struggles.

Impact Stammen has registered three scoreless outings out of four appearances out of the bullpen this season, and this outing was a nice return to form for the 26-year-old after he blew the save Wednesday against the Giants. He should remain a prominent arm in the Padres bullpen moving forward.

Impact Though Solano is largely expected to work as a short-side platoon option in 2020 after producing a .339/.382/.461 slash line versus lefties last season, manager Gabe Kapler elected to give the infielder a rare start against a right-handed pitcher (Chris Paddack). After providing a single in one of his at-bats against Paddack, Solano came through with his biggest hit of the ninth versus another righty (Craig Stammen in the eighth), slugging a 380-foot home run to left field. With everyday third baseman Evan Longoria (oblique) due back from the injured list Thursday, Solano likely won't see many more opportunities against righties, but his spot in the lineup versus lefties remains secure.
