INJURIES

Charged with loss Monday Stammen (0-1) allowed one run on two hits and struck out two over 1.1 innings in a loss against the Giants on Monday. He also recorded a base hit in his lone at-bat of the night.
Impact Stammen retired the first four batters he faced before serving up a pinch-hit home run to Mike Yastrzemski in the seventh that put the Giants up 3-2. The long ball ended up being the difference in the game as the 37-year-old was handed his first loss of the season. Stammen has struggled in both of his outings thus far, as he's given up five hits (two home runs) and three runs in 3.1 innings of work.

Looking good this spring Stammen has allowed only one run on three hits across 7.2 innings this spring while posting a 4:3 K:BB.
Impact The veteran reliever struggled with a career-worst 5.63 ERA last season, though his 3.36 FIP suggests that he was dealt some bad luck in the abbreviated campaign. Stammen isn't an appealing fantasy option but should serve as an important stabilizing presence in the middle of the Padres' bullpen.

Lasts 1.2 innings as opener Stammen tossed 1.2 scoreless innings Friday in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Cardinals but didn't factor into the decision. He allowed one hit and no walks while st...
Impact Stammen pitched well as the opener during Friday's decisive matchup, but he was still removed early as the Padres used nine pitchers to secure the win. Mike Clevinger (elbow) and Dinelson Lamet (biceps) could return to action for the NLDS against the Dodgers, and Stammen would likely be moved to the bullpen if they're available.

Reliever Stammen to start for Padres in Game 3 vs Cardinals

Opening Friday's series finale Stammen will be the first pitcher for the Padres in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Round against the Cardinals on Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact Stammen will almost certainly be an opener rather than a true starter, as he's yet to throw more than two innings in an appearance this season and hasn't started a game since 2010. The Padres used eight pitchers in Game 1 on Wednesday and nine in Game 2 on Thursday, so frequent pitching changes will certainly be nothing new for manager Jayce Tingler.

Earns relief win Stammen (4-2) earned the win Saturday against the Giants after pitching two scoreless innings, allowing one hit while fanning two.
Impact Stammen piggybacked Zach Davies' strong opening performance -- three scoreless innings -- en route to his fourth win of the season, ending a streak of two straight appearances allowing earned runs out of the bullpen. Stammen has been one of San Diego's most reliable relievers of late, though, posting a 1.80 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP in nine appearances (10 innings) this month.

Takes loss against Rockies Stammen (0-1) was tagged with the loss Saturday against the Rockies after allowing one run on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning.
Impact Stammen entered the game in the bottom of the ninth and didn't have a good performance. He allowed a single to Ryan McMahon and walked Garrett Hampson before recording the first out, and then Daniel Murphy delivered a walkoff single to center fielder Trent Grisham to give the Rockies the win. This was Stammen's first loss of the season but he hasn't been pitching well of late -- he has given up five runs in 2.1 innings across his last four relief appearances.

Rocked by Mariners Stammen allowed four runs on four hits in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mariners. He did not record an out.
Impact Stammen came on to pitch the top of the seventh with the game tied at 3-3. He allowed four singles and a hit-by-pitch without getting an out. He left the game with the Mariners leading 6-3 and was charged with one more run when Austin Nola extended Seattle's lead with a sacrifice fly. Luckily for the right-hander, the Padres let him off the hook by rallying for four seven runs in the bottom half of the inning. Stammen's ERA jumped to 7.90 on the campaign, although it's worth noting that 11 of the 12 earned runs he's allowed came in three bad outings.
