Chris Flexen - Early exit in Arizona Flexen (1-3) took the loss Wednesday, allowing six runs on four hits and two walks over 2.1 innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out three.
Impact Arizona exploded for five runs in the third inning after Flexen hit a pair of batters before issuing back-to-back walks. The 29-year-old right-hander has allowed 10 runs in his last two starts (eight innings). Flexen's ERA is up to 7.36 with a 1.74 WHIP and 60:32 K:BB across 80.2 innings between the Rockies and Mariners this season. He's tentatively lined up for a home matchup with the Cubs in his next outing.

Zach Davies - Tagged for five run in no-decision Davies did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over three innings against Colorado. He struck out two.
Impact It was a rough outing for Davies, who had allowed just two runs over his previous two starts (11 innings). The Rockies got to him early Wednesday, scoring four times in the first inning after the first four batters reached safely. Overall, Davies is 2-5 with an unsightly 6.81 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 59:33 K:BB across 15 starts (71.1 innings) this season. He'll look to get on track in his next start, currently scheduled for early next week against the Mets.

Alek Thomas - Drives in five Thomas went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBI in Wednesday's 12-5 win over the Rockies.
Impact Thomas put the Diamondbacks in front 6-5 in the third inning with a three-run homer off Chris Flexen, his eighth of the season, before driving in two more runs with a base hit in the fourth. Thomas had gone just 2-for-20 with one RBI in seven games before Wednesday's contest, and the home run was his first since Aug. 1. Overall, the 23-year-old outfielder is slashing .241/.284/.396 with 44 runs scored, 31 RBI and seven steals through 325 plate appearances this season. Thomas has gotten regular playing time against right-handed pitching, though he could see an expanded role if Corbin Carroll (wrist) is forced to miss time.

Jose Herrera - Heading back to minors Herrera will be optioned to Triple-A Reno on Thursday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact With the D-backs claiming Seby Zavala off waivers from the White Sox on Wednesday, Herrera will be sent back to the minors to avoid carrying three catchers on the active roster. The 26-year-old is slashing just .202/.296/.245 across 113 plate appearances in the majors this year, and will likely remain in Triple-A to conclude the season.

Ryne Nelson - Starting Thursday Nelson will come up from Triple-A Reno to start Thursday's game against the Cubs, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Nelson has allowed 12 runs over six innings across his last two major-league starts, but he will be called upon to round out Arizona's rotation nonetheless. With a 5.47 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 82 strikeouts over 125 innings, Nelson has very little fantasy upside.
