Sitting again Sunday
Abrams (biceps) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.
Impact
Abrams was scratched from Saturday's lineup with biceps soreness and will remain on the bench Sunday. The 21-year-old didn't throw during the All-Star break before playing in Friday's game, and the injury remains bothersome.

Dealing with biceps soreness
Abrams was removed from Saturday's lineup against the Mets due to biceps soreness, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Abrams didn't throw over the All-Star break prior to throwing during Friday's matchup, so he'll be held out Saturday as a precautionary measure. He should be considered day-to-day ahead of Sunday's series finale.

Crushes three-run blast
Abrams went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's 6-5 win over the Rockies.
Impact
Abrams' eighth-inning blast gave the Padres just enough offense to get the win. He's started each of the last two games at shortstop with Ha-Seong Kim (thumb) hurt, though Kim was able to appear as a defensive replacement Monday and may not be out much longer. Abrams is 7-for-20 (.350) in July, and he's up to a .234/.281/.333 slash line with two homers, 11 RBI, 15 runs scored and a stolen base through 123 plate appearances overall.

Fills in for resting Kim
Abrams will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Tuesday's game against the Mariners, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The lefty-hitting Abrams returns to the lineup after he sat out each of the past three contests when the Padres opposed a pair of lefties (the Dodgers' Tyler Anderson and Clayton Kershaw) and one righty (the Mariners' Tyler Anderson). Though Abrams will be getting the start at shortstop with the righty-hitting Ha-Seong Kim sitting against right-hander Logan Gilbert, Kim's absence from the lineup looks to be more of a maintenance day after he had started in each of the past 17 games. Now that Manny Machado is ready to handle third base on an everyday basis following a recent nine-game absence, Kim looks well positioned to serve as San Diego's primary shortstop against both left- and right-handed pitching. Abrams is slashing an unremarkable .238/.256/.286 during his latest stint with the big club and hasn't made a case for earning a full-time role now that the Padres are closer to full strength in the infield.

Sits again versus lefty
Abrams is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
Impact
The lefty-hitting Abrams will sit for the second game in a row with the Dodgers bringing another lefty (Clayton Kershaw) to the hill. Before the back-to-back absences, Abrams started in 11 consecutive games, slashing .231/.250/.282 over that stretch. However, Manny Machado missed 10 of those contests with an ankle injury, and now that he's being reinstalled as the Padres' everyday third baseman, Abrams will have to battle Ha-Seong Kim for playing time at shortstop. Though Kim bats from the right side of the plate, he may not have to settle for the short side of platoon since he's outperformed Abrams at the dish during their respective time in the big leagues this season.

Retreats to bench Saturday
Abrams isn't starting Saturday against the Dodgers.
Impact

Gets third straight start
Abrams will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact
Abrams will stick in the starting nine for the third game in a row after going 1-for-6 with a run scored. The Padres remain optimistic that Manny Machado (ankle) won't require a trip to the injured list, but while Machado is day-to-day and out of the lineup, Abrams will have a clear path to regular work at shortstop while Ha-Seong Kim slides over to third base.

Hitless in return
Abrams went 0-for-3 in Monday's 4-1 win over the Diamondbacks.
Impact
Abrams was called up for his second stint with San Diego on Monday, and he immediately slotted into the starting lineup, batting eighth and playing shortstop. He wasn't able to reach base, dropping his season slash line in the majors to .172/.258/.259. Abrams is expected to draw plenty of starts while Manny Machado (ankle) is out of action.

Returns to majors
Abrams was recalled by the Padres on Monday.
Impact
Abrams joined the Opening Day roster straight from Double-A this season but looked overmatched. He was demoted a little over a month into the season after struggling to a .182/.270/.273 line in 20 games. He's fared far better in his first taste of Triple-A action, hitting .314/.365/.507 in 30 games for Triple-A El Paso. Depending on the severity of Manny Machado's ankle sprain, Abrams could be in line to start regularly going forward, with Ha-Seong Kim sliding to cover third base, leaving Abrams as the primary option at shortstop.

On fire in minors
Abrams is on a seven-game hitting streak with Triple-A El Paso, slashing .429/.429/.657 with two homers, seven RBI and four stolen bases over that span.
Impact
The prized prospect was particularly impressive during a three-game stretch between June 11-14, going 11-for-16 with two homers, six RBI and three thefts. After opening the campaign in the majors with the Padres, Abrams has had some ups-and-downs in the minors, including an early nine-game stretch during which he went 4-for-42 at the plate. However, his overall stat line with El Paso -- he's slashing .310/.360/.500 with six long balls, 27 RBI, 32 runs and nine steals in 27 games -- leaves little doubt about his immense talent. It would be surprising if Abrams didn't return to the Padres at some point this season.
