Cracks second homer Cabrera went 1-for-2 with two walks, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Reds on Saturday.
Impact Cabrera entered this contest with just two hits in his last five games (15 at-bats), but he had been showing a good approach, with five walks against only one strikeout in that stretch. He continued to show his patience Saturday, but Cabrera also saw one he liked from Jeff Hoffman and took the right-hander yard for his second homer of the young season. Cabrera has been the starter at third base in all but one of Arizona's games so far.

Beats Reds in first career start Smith (1-0) allowed two runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two over six innings in a win over the Reds on Saturday.
Impact A 24th-round pick in 2016, Smith debuted in the big leagues last season, pitching 18.1 innings out of the Diamondbacks' bullpen. He got the call to make his first major-league start Saturday after Caleb Smith was moved to the bullpen and Smith got the job done, even if the swing-and-miss was lacking. This may have been a one-off in the rotation for Smith with Zac Gallen (forearm) due back next week, but Smith likely solidified his place atop the list for spot starts in Arizona with this performance.

Takes loss in Arizona Hoffman (1-1) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Impact After inducing 13 swinging strikes on 77 pitches in a win over the Cardinals in his Reds debut, Hoffman managed just seven swinging strikes on 82 pitches Saturday. Two of the three runs charged to Hoffman crossed the plate after he exited the game, but the right-hander had issues with command during his time on the mound, as evidenced by the fact he had more walks than strikeouts. If Jose De Leon has a better outing Sunday, Cincinnati could opt to keep De Leon in the rotation over Hoffman with Sonny Gray (back) due to return next week.

Making slow progress Lorenzen (shoulder) has been playing catch this week, but he's still at least a couple of weeks away from returning, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact Following a setback at the end of spring training for Lorenzen, the Reds have had him progressing slowly. "Still moving a little slower than he would like," manager David Bell said, "but he's getting there."

Could be bumped from rotation De Leon will start Sunday against the Diamondbacks, but he is at risk of getting bumped to the bullpen with Sonny Gray returning next week, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enqu...
Impact De Leon pitched well against the Pirates in his last time out, but part of the Reds decision might come down to who is more capable of pitching in relief, with the Reds not planning on moving to a six-man rotation. The decision essentially comes down to either De Leon or Jeff Hoffman.
