Kevin Newman - Placed on injured list The Reds placed Newman on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain (retroactive to Aug. 16).

Impact Newman was previously on the injured list with an illness in late July, and now an oblique injury will force him out for at least another week. Top prospect Noelvi Marte was recalled from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.

Jake Fraley - Will play through injury Fraley said Saturday that he will eventually need to undergo surgery on his toe, but he will play through his injury for now, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Impact Fraley was told by his doctors that he could attempt to play through his injury, so he will do so in order to contribute to Cincinnati's postseason push. Fraley has already spent the minimum 10 days on the injured list, though it remains unclear when Cincinnati plans on activating him.

Noelvi Marte - Earns major-league call-up Marte was called up by the Reds on Saturday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Impact Marte joined the Reds' organization at the 2022 trade deadline in a deal which sent Luis Castillo to Seattle. The 21-year-old has split time between shortstop and third base at the two levels of the minors this season, posting an identical .820 OPS at both stops while adding 11 homers and 18 steals in 89 games. The Reds have a very crowded infield after the arrival of several top prospects this season, though Jonathan India's plantar fasciitis means at-bats are available at least in the short term for Marte to show what he can do.

Impact Diaz pitched for the just the second time in the last nine days and benefitted from Christian Encarnacion-Strand's walk-off home run. Reds manager David Bell had the luxury of bringing a well-rested Diaz into a scoreless tie in the ninth inning to face the heart of Toronto's order. Like several other overworked members of the Cincinnati bullpen, Diaz endured a tough patch early in the month, but a stretch of relative inactivity appears to have renewed the closer.

Impact Lively allowed a pair of home runs, but the pitch count (76) and innings were most important. He had been scheduled to throw 85 pitches in his first rehab start Sunday but only tossed 32 (19 strikes) after allowing six runs in two-thirds of an inning. This could be Lively's final rehab outing, per MLB.com, but Cincinnati manager David Bell wants to see how the right-hander feels Saturday before making any decision.
