Connor Phillips - Could make start Phillips is a candidate to start a game as the Reds deal with multiple absences in the starting rotation, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact Cincinnati added Graham Ashcraft (toe) to the injured list Saturday, and he joins fellow starters Hunter Greene, Brandon Williamson and Ben Lively, all of whom are on the COVID-19 list. The absences leave openings in the starting rotation over the next four days. Carson Spiers will make his MLB debut Sunday, and Phillips could follow soon after. The 22-year-old right-hander last started for Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, when he pitched six scoreless innings with six strikeouts. If the Reds give him a spot start, his five-day schedule comes due Tuesday at home against the Mariners.

Hunter Renfroe - Sitting Sunday Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
Impact Renfroe made his Reds debut in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader and is 0-for-9 with an RBI and a strikeout. The veteran outfielder may not have an everyday spot in Cincinnati's lineup but should still see regular at-bats down the stretch after being claimed off waivers from the Angels.

Jake Fraley - Not in Sunday's lineup Fraley is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
Impact The 28-year-old started in two of three games since being activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, and he's gone 5-for-9 with three doubles and a run. Fraley will eventually require surgery to address the stress fracture in his fourth toe that sidelined him for most of August, and he may receive a few more off days than usual down the stretch as he plays through the injury. TJ Friedl, Harrison Bader and Will Benson will start from left to right in the outfield Sunday while Nick Martini bats leadoff as the designated hitter.

Andrew Abbott - Quality start in no-decision Abbott did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 6.1 innings in a 2-1 victory over the Cubs. He struck out five.
Impact The 24-year-old southpaw held the Cubs scoreless through 6.1 innings before Jeimer Candelario launched a solo shot, chasing Abbott from the game with a 1-0 deficit. Cincinnati scored two to secure a walk-off win and get Abbott off the hook for what would have been an unfortunate loss. This was his first quality start since he notched three in a row coming out of the All-Star break. During his six starts in the interim, Abbott posted a 6.67 ERA and 1.81 WHIP across 27 innings. He currently lines up for a home matchup versus the Cardinals at the end of next week.
