Brandon Williamson - Activated for Tuesday's start Williamson (illness) was activated from the COVID-19-related injured list ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday at Detroit.
Impact Williamson wound up missing a couple of weeks while battling COVID-like symptoms. The 25-year-old left-hander returns to a 4-4 record, 4.20 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 87:33 K:BB through his first 19 major-league starts covering 98.2 innings.

Will Benson - On bench versus lefty Benson is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Tigers.
Impact Benson went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double in Sunday's series finale against the Cardinals, but he'll ride the pine in Tuesday's series opener at Detroit with left-hander Joey Wentz on the bump. Benson, 25, has batted just .152/.222/.212 in 36 plate appearances versus lefties this year.

Andrew Abbott - Won't start Wednesday Abbott will not start for the Reds on Wednesday in Detroit in what would be his next turn in the rotation, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact Abbott's 153 innings between the majors and minors this season is already 35 frames past his previous career high, and he's looked of late like he might be hitting a wall with a 6.51 ERA over his last eight starts. The Reds currently have TBD listed for Thursday, and it's possible Abbott winds up taking the ball that day. For now, though, his next scheduled start looks to be up in the air.

Connor Phillips - Drawing start Wednesday Phillips will start for the Reds on Wednesday in Detroit, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact It's Andrew Abbott's turn, but the Reds will give Abbott at least one extra day of rest amidst his recent struggles. Phillips is an intriguing young arm but struggled in his major-league debut last week against the Mariners, yielding five runs over 4.2 innings.

Impact Williamson will have gone exactly two weeks between starts, as he's been sidelined while on the COVID-19 injured list. The left-hander had turned in back-to-back quality starts before going on the IL, but he's been up-and-down this season and might not be ready for a full workload Tuesday.

Impact Herget is no longer on the Reds' 40-man roster but will remain in the organization. The right-hander has posted a 5.18 ERA and 13:6 K:BB over 24.1 innings in the majors in 2023.

Jonathan India - Homers and steals bag in return India went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.
Impact India sent a long ball over the wall in center on his first at-bat since July 29. He also surprised with a stolen base, which was his first since he had two June 3. The 26-year-old is now slashing .252/.337/.416 with 15 homers, 53 RBI, 69 runs, 13 steals and a 40:92 BB:K in 457 plate appearances this season and should hold a near everyday role as he tries to help the Reds fight for a playoff spot.

T.J. Friedl - Notches two extra-base hits in win Friedl went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a triple, and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.
Impact Friedl notched his seventh triple and added to the Reds' lead with his 13th home run of the year in the seventh. He remains second on the team with 24 steals but has not swiped a bag since Aug. 23 and has failed to convert either of his two attempts over his last 17 games. The 27-year-old has been sitting more against lefties as of late and has hit 10 of his 13 home runs at home. Fantasy managers should deploy him in their lineups with Caution this upcoming week with the Reds playing all six of their games on the road while also slated to face two lefties. Friedl now sits at a slash line of .270/.338/.439 with 52 RBI, 62 runs and a 36:79 BB:K in 490 plate appearances.

Joey Votto - Homers in return to lineup Votto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.
Impact Votto gave himself a nice birthday present by extending the Reds' lead with a solo home run to right in the eighth in his first game back since Aug. 23. Votto hasn't hit the ball a ton, evidenced by his .201 batting average, but he's still hitting the ball for power, as he now has 14 home runs in 52 games this season. The 40-year-old should figure to see a near-everyday role at either first base or designated hitter down the final stretch of the year. He's now hitting .201/.302/.471 with 35 RBI, 21 runs and a 20:55 BB:K in 199 plate appearances.

Impact Benson recorded his second three-hit effort over his last four games and reached the double-digit home run mark with a solo blast in the third. His recent surge at the plate has him at 9 hits in 10 games this month, although he's started just six of those 10 games, as he continues to sit against lefties. The 25-year-old has put together a nice season during his first year in Cincinnati, slashing .273/.369/.502 with 10 homers, 27 RBI, 45 runs and a 37:89 BB:K in 287 plate appearances.

Hunter Greene - Dominates Cardinals for win Greene (4-6) had his way with the Cardinals on Sunday, earning the win while allowing an unearned run on one hits and four walks in six innings. He struck out nine.
Impact Greene's lone hit allowed on the day was an RBI-single from Andrew Knizner in the fourth. The 23-year-old has now allowed just two unearned runs on four hits and five walks while recording 15 punchouts over his last 11.1 innings after surrendering 14 runs (13 earned) in his first two starts back from the injured list. Greene seems poised for a strong run to close out the season will look to continue his dominant effort in a road matchup with the Mets his next time out.

Impact The Reds have been shorthanded for starting pitchers over the past couple weeks with multiple players on the COVID-19 injured list, which allowed Spiers to make his first two starts in the big leagues. The 25-year-old allowed seven earned runs over seven frames between the two outings, so it's hardly a surprise he's heading back to the minors.
