Harrison Bader - Forced to IL with groin strain Bader was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right groin strain.
Impact Bader suffered the injury during Sunday's loss to the Mets and will be sidelined for at least the next week and a half. He will be eligible for activation during the Reds' final series of the regular season, although it remains to be seen whether he will be ready at that time.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Connor Phillips - Call-up official ahead of start The Reds selected Phillips' contract from Triple-A Louisville ahead of his scheduled start Monday against the Twins.
Impact He'll be making his third start of September with the Reds after posting an 8.31 ERA and 1.85 WHIP in 8.2 innings between his first two big-league outings. After Monday, the Reds will be able to get by with a four-man rotation for the rest of the season as they look to chase down a playoff spot, so Phillips could be a candidate to return to Triple-A immediately after the start.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Graham Ashcraft - Shifts to 60-day IL The Reds transferred Ashcraft (toe) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.
Impact The move to the 60-day IL officially ends Ashcraft's season, which comes as little surprise after reports emerged over the weekend that the right-hander would soon undergo surgery to address a stress reaction in his right big toe. Ashcraft is expected to be in store for a relatively normal offseason and should be fully cleared in advance of spring training. He finished the 2023 campaign with a 7-9 record, 4.76 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 111:52 K:BB over 145.2 innings across 26 starts with Cincinnati.

Connor Phillips - Set to join big club, start Monday The Reds plan to recall Phillips from Triple-A Louisville to start Monday's game against the Twins, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact Though Phillips was sent back to Louisville on Thursday, he'll be eligible to return to the Reds without spending the minimum 15 days in the minors because he had initially joined Cincinnati earlier this month as a replacement for a player placed on the COVID-19-related injured list. The Reds have four other healthy starting pitchers and three more off days over the final two weeks of the season, so Phillips may just be making a spot start Monday if manager David Bell chooses to get by with a four-man rotation the rest of the way. Phillips has been one of the Reds' top pitchers in the upper levels of the minors this season but labored in his first two big-league starts, striking out 10 over 8.2 innings while allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits and six walks.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Elly De La Cruz - Dropped to ninth De La Cruz batted ninth and went 0-for-4 in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Mets.
Impact De La Cruz's slide down the batting order reached its lowest point since he was called up in June. A second-half slump finally prompted manager David Bell to drop the rookie this past week. In his last four starts, De La Cruz batted seventh, eighth (twice) and ninth. It was encouraging to see him knock a pair of hits Saturday after getting a day off Friday, but the 21-year-old's struggles continued Sunday. De La Cruz has batted .184 since the All-Star break.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Christian Encarnacion-Strand - Homers again Encarnacion-Strand went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Mets.
Impact Encarnacion-Strand homered for a second time in as many days; however, Sunday's blast didn't carry the same impact as his game-winning hit the previous day. He's given the Reds a lift during the chase for the playoffs, registering a .341/.370/.591 slash line with three home runs and seven RBI over 13 September games.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Nick Senzel - Homers in loss Senzel went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Mets.
Impact Senzel has seen an uptick in plate appearances of late, as Reds manager David Bell gets him into contests whenever a lefty is throwing -- be that a starter or reliever. He's started four of the last six and entered as a pinch hitter in the two games he did not start. The infielder/outfielder has responded well to the increased usage, posting a .391/.391/.696 slash line with two home runs over the last eight games.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Alex Young - Rejoins mates, not activated yet Young (illness) rejoined teammates in New York over the weekend but has not yet been activated, MLB.com reports.
Impact Young tested positive for COVID-19 during his rehab assignment for a hamstring injury, which no longer appears to be an issue. He fired a scoreless inning for Triple-A Louisville on Friday, striking out all three batters faced.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Luke Maile - X-rays negative Maile (hand) underwent X-rays Saturday which came back negative, MLB.com reports.
Impact With the X-rays confirming Maile has nothing more serious than a bruised hand, the catcher was available Sunday but did not appear in an 8-4 loss to the Mets.

Brandon Williamson - Loses to Mets Williamson (4-5) yielded three runs on six hits and a walk over four innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Mets.
Impact Williamson began the game with a pair of scoreless frames before coughing up three runs in the third. In two starts since returning from the COVID-19 injured list, he's allowed eight runs in eight innings. He's produced a 4.68 ERA in eight outings since the start of August. Williamson's next start is projected to be at home against the Pirates.

Reds drop out of wild card spot with 8-4 loss to Mets, who get Vogelbach's 3-run double

Pinch-hitter Daniel Vogelbach had a three-run double in the seventh inning, and the New York Mets hurt Cincinnati’s wild card chances with an 8-4 victory over the sloppy Reds
SEPTEMBER 17, 2023 • Associated Press
Will Benson - Not starting versus southpaw Benson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.
Impact Benson sits against most left-handed starting pitchers, and that's the case again Sunday with veteran Jose Quintana on the mound for New York. Nick Senzel is manning left field and batting second.
SEPTEMBER 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Jonathan India - Steps out of lineup India is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.
Impact India started all six games since he returned from the injured list last weekend, and he'll take a seat Sunday after he went 4-for-24 with two homers and five RBI. Spencer Steer will start at second base and bat leadoff for Cincinnati.
SEPTEMBER 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Graham Ashcraft - Will undergo season-ending surgery Ashcraft will undergo season-ending surgery on his right big toe Tuesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact Ashcraft landed on the injured list earlier this month and hoped to pitch again but surgery obviates a return in 2023. The Reds move forward with just one pitcher from the Opening Day rotation -- Hunter Greene -- and three rookies. Ben Lively, who battled through a pectoral injury and recently returned from the COVID-19-related injured list, is also projected to start games.
SEPTEMBER 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Alexis Díaz - Unavailable for save Diaz was not available to pitch Saturday when Derek Law recorded the save in a 3-2 win over the Mets, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact Diaz had thrown a total of 57 pitches over three of the previous days, including a five-out save Friday, so manager David Bell opted for Law, who earned his second save of the season.
SEPTEMBER 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Christian Encarnacion-Strand - Comes up big in win over Mets Encarnacion-Strand went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a stolen base in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Mets.
Impact Getting the start at third base and batting seventh, Encarnacion-Strand delivered what proved to be the winning runs when he lofted a Tylor Megill fastball over the fence in right-center field in the fourth inning. Encarnacion-Strand hasn't been seeing regular playing time lately on a crowded Reds roster, but the 23-year-old has been making the most of his opportunities, slashing .325/.357/.525 through 12 games in September with two doubles, two homers, four runs and five RBI.
SEPTEMBER 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Derek Law - Notches second save Law gave up two hits in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record his second save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Mets.
Impact With Alexis Diaz having pitched three of the prior four days, Reds manager David Bell had to get creative to protect a late lead, and Fernando Cruz worked the seventh and eighth innings before handing the ball off to Law. The right-hander made things interesting, serving up singles to Daniel Vogelbach and Francisco Alvarez, but he got Pete Alonso to ground out to escape the jam. Law has been struggling lately, posting a 10.80 ERA and 2.52 WHIP over his last 10 appearances, and his last hold or save prior to Saturday came July 3, so he's unlikely to see regular high-leverage duty down the stretch.
SEPTEMBER 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Andrew Abbott - Early exit in no-decision Abbott came away with a no-decision Saturday in the Reds' 3-2 win over the Mets, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out five.
Impact The rookie southpaw tossed an inefficient 91 pitches (54 strikes) before getting the hook after serving up a pair of doubles in the bottom of the fourth inning, missing out on his ninth win of the season in the process. Abbott has failed to complete more than four innings in four of his last five starts, stumbling to a 6.33 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 24:15 K:BB through 21.1 innings over that stretch, but the Reds don't have any better rotation options as they try to hang onto a wild-card spot in the NL. He lines up to take the mound next at home against the Pirates next weekend.
