Signs with Red Sox Martin signed a two-year, $17.5 million deal with the Red Sox on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Coming off of a nice 2022 campaign that saw Martin record a 3.05 ERA and 0.98 WHIP through 56 frames, the 36-year-old reliever will provide a nice boost to a Boston bullpen that turned in the fifth-worst ERA (4.59) in baseball last season. Martin will more than likely be turned to often in high-leverage situations, so long as his age doesn't begin to catch up with him.

Collects second save Martin recorded his second save of the season in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Impact Craig Kimbrel and Evan Phillips had both worked two straight days coming into Tuesday, so Martin got the call in the matinee when the Dodgers took a late lead after a five-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning. The veteran right-hander has been scored upon only once in his last 14 appearances dating back to Aug. 15, posting a 1.32 ERA, 0.44 WHIP and dazzling 20:0 K:BB through 13.2 innings over that stretch while picking up a win, a hold and both his saves. With Blake Treinen (shoulder) and Brusdar Graterol (elbow) both potentially set to return before the end of the regular season, Martin could get squeezed out of any more high-leverage work despite his impressive recent efforts.

Martin took over on the mound in the eighth inning and threw 13 of 16 pitches for strikes to retire the side in order, and he was credited with the win as a result of the Dodgers scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the frame. Since joining Los Angeles in a July 30 trade, Martin has posted a 2.16 ERA, 0.48 WHIP and 10:0 K:BB over 8.1 innings while picking up three wins and one hold.
