Impact Contreras did his part to keep the line moving Wednesday. He's rebounded after a tough stretch to start May -- the catcher has gone 7-for-14 with a pair of RBI and a run scored in his last four games. Impact Pederson hit an RBI double in the fifth inning, but that was the extent of the Cubs' run-scoring Wednesday. The 29-year-old Pederson has been on a tear lately, going 12-for-25 (.480) with five RBI and three runs scored in his last six games. The surge has lifted his season slash line to .244/.337/.321 with one home run, nine RBI and eight runs scored in 92 plate appearances. Pederson entered Wednesday with a .319 BABIP, indicating he's had some poor luck at the plate so far.

Keegan Thompson - Charged with first loss Thompson (1-1) gave up an unearned run on a hit and two walks in two-thirds of an inning in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to Cleveland.
Impact One of Thompson's walks was of the intentional variety to load the bases. He got Cesar Hernandez to pop up for the second out, but Amed Rosario lined a walkoff single to right. Thompson has yet to allow an earned run in his first 8.1 big-league innings. He's posted a 1.56 WHIP and 2:6 K:BB in four appearances and he's likely best suited for low-leverage work as he adjusts to the majors.

Impact The only run against Davies came in the sixth inning on an Amed Rosario RBI double.
