Eugenio Suárez - Continues scorching start to season Suarez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk Saturday in a 4-3 loss to the Cubs.

Impact Suarez set off an Arizona rally in the ninth inning with a two-run blast off Cubs closer Ryan Pressly. The veteran third baseman has now homered in each of Arizona's first three games of the campaign, belting four long balls and racking up seven RBI in that span. Suarez's red-hot start is a stark contrast to his early-season struggles last year -- he had just six homers and a .196 batting average through the end of June in his first campaign with the Diamondbacks in 2024.

Impact Tucker came into Saturday having gone just 2-for-16 over his first four contests as a Cub, but he put himself on the right track with Saturday's three-hit performance. His biggest knock was a two-run homer in the fifth inning that gave the Cubs a lead they never relinquished. Three of Tucker's five hits so far have gone for extra bases, and he has four RBI through five contests.

Matt Shaw - Belts first big-league homer Shaw went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-3 victory versus Arizona.

Impact Shaw didn't start the contest, but he came through in a big way as a pinch hitter when he smacked a solo homer to left-center field in the seventh inning. The long ball was his first major-league home run, and it proved to be the winning margin in the 4-3 win. Shaw is working as the Cubs' primary third baseman in his rookie campaign, and he's gone 3-for-19 through his first five major-league games.

Brandon Pfaadt - Takes loss despite quality start Pfaadt (0-1) took the loss against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five batters over six innings.

Impact Pfaadt held Chicago scoreless for three frames before giving up a run in the fourth inning. The Cubs tagged him for two more runs on a Kyle Tucker homer in the fifth, and Arizona was never able to catch up. Pfaadt was pretty efficient in completing six frames on 78 pitches, and he gave his fantasy managers a boost with a quality start despite the loss. His second start of the campaign is expected to come against Washington next week.

Ryan Pressly - Struggles but nabs first save Pressly picked up a save against the Diamondbacks on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out one batter over one inning.

Impact Pressly had a cushy three-run lead to work with when he got the ball in the ninth inning, but the veteran righty nearly gave the game away. He allowed Arizona to pull to within a run before making an out when Eugenio Suarez tagged him for a two-run homer, and Arizona put the tying run on base when Gabriel Moreno followed with a single. Pressly managed to retire the next two batters, but he walked Ketel Marte, and then allowed Corbin Carroll to reach base on an infield single. However, Garrett Hampson made a baserunning blunder on the hit and was tagged out after reaching third base, allowing Pressly to escape with his first save as a Cub. He should have some leash given his veteran status, but if Pressly were to struggle for an extended period, Porter Hodge -- who saved nine games for Chicago last season -- would be waiting in the wings.
