Scheduled to start Wednesday Petty is scheduled to start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Impact The Reds and Cardinals were rained out Tuesday and will play two Wednesday. Petty, one of Cincinnati's top prospects, will make his MLB debut and serve as the club's 27th player on the roster. The 22-year-old right-hander is 0-2 with a 3.52 ERA with 27 strikeouts and nine walks over 23 innings in five starts for Triple-A Louisville. Petty was dominant in his last start for the Bats, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out seven over six shutout innings.

Sparkles against champs Petty allowed one run on four hits and struck out four over three innings in Tuesday's spring start against the Dodgers.

Impact This was Petty's first Cactus League start -- he appeared twice previously out of the bullpen -- and the 2021 first-round draft pick held his own against the World Series champs, who brought a stacked lineup to the game. The right-hander's first pitch of the night was a 98.1 mph fastball to Shohei Ohtani -- the first of 21 pitches that registered at least 97 mph. He ended the night after 51 pitches, freezing Freddie Freeman with a slider. The lone blemish was a home run by Mookie Betts. Petty finished up 2024 at Triple-A Louisville and is expected to begin 2025 there.

Bumped up to Triple-A The Reds promoted Petty from Double-A Chattanooga to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Impact Petty had an up and down season at Chattanooga, but he completed a season-high seven frames in each of his final three starts before the promotion, logging a 2.14 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 21 innings over that stretch. On the season, the 21-year-old righty logged a 4.39 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 123:56 K:BB in 127 innings at Double-A. His walk rate spiked to 10.4 percent this season after it had been below six percent at his previous three stops.
