Dealt to Oakland for cash Honeywell was traded from the Rays to the Athletics on Friday in exchange for cash, Shayna Rubin of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Impact Universally considered one of the game's best pitching prospects prior to the 2018 season, injuries have really taken their toll on Honeywell. The A's already have a couple pitchers with a similar track record in A.J. Puk and James Kaprielian. It seems unlikely that Honeywell will make it as a starter, but the Athletics' developmental plan for him should become clearer in the spring.

Impact Honeywell was sent to the minors to make room on the 26-man active roster for Michael Wacha (hamstring), who is scheduled to return from the 10-day injured list to start Sunday's series finale versus the Blue Jays. Tampa Bay didn't use Honeywell out of the bullpen during his latest stint in the big leagues, which lasted just two games.

Back in big leagues Honeywell was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Friday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Impact Honeywell finally got to make his big-league debut this season after battling injuries for the last three years. In his first three MLB appearances, which lasted a total of 4.1 innings despite the fact that two technically counted as starts, he gave up four runs, striking out four while walking three. Louis Head was optioned in a corresponding move.

Berry notes Honeywell, who's undergone four elbow surgeries since 2017, has pitched about once every five days between the alternate site and the majors thus far, but manager Kevin Cash notes that frequency could shorten and the volume could rise the more acclimated Honeywell's arm becomes. "If he's bouncing back and he feels good, I think down the road there's a chance to put a bigger workload on him," Cash said.
