Seeing time at shortstop vs. RHPs Shewmake will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Mariners, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Impact For the Astros' third consecutive matchup versus a right-handed starter, the left-handed-hitting Shewmake has received the nod over the right-handed-hitting Nick Allen at shortstop. Assuming the Astros continue to take a platoon approach to shortstop, Shewmake will likely see the bulk of the starts at the position in the short term, but Jeremy Pena (hamstring) is set to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday or Wednesday and could settle back atop the depth chart by the weekend.

Capitalizes on start with homer Shewmake went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in a 2-1 win over the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Impact Shewmake hasn't gotten many opportunities since he was called up April 20, and this was his first start in the Astros' past six contests. He made the most of it by logging half of Houston's four total hits, including a solo homer in the third inning, which proved to be the winning run. Shewmake has been effective when given a chance with a .308/.308/.769 slash line, two home runs and two RBI over 14 plate appearances, but his fantasy viability is very limited given how little playing time he's received.

Homers in Astros debut Shewmake went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Friday's 12-4 loss to the Yankees.

Impact Shewmake's first at-bat with Houston came as a pinch hitter for Carlos Correa in the seventh inning, with the Astros in a 12-3 hole. The 28-year-old infielder responded with his second career MLB homer, a 403-foot blast off Fernando Cruz. Shewmake spent the entire 2024 and 2025 seasons in the Yankees system -- he slashed .243/.317/.361 with four homers and 15 steals in 85 games last year with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Shewmake figures to remain with the Astros as a bench option until Jeremy Pena (hamstring) and Nick Allen (back) return from the IL.

Called up to majors The Astros selected Shewmake's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday.

Impact Just one day after acquiring Shewmake in a trade with the Yankees, the Astros will elevate the 28-year-old to the big-league roster to provide added depth in the infield while Jeremy Pena (hamstring) and Nick Allen (back) are on the shelf. Shewmake last saw big-league action in 2024 with the White Sox, appearing in 29 games while batting just .125/.134/.203 with one home run and five stolen bases over 67 plate appearances.

Dealt to Houston The Astros acquired Shewmake from the Yankees on Sunday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.

Impact The 28-year-old infielder has previously seen big-league action with Atlanta in 2023 and the White Sox in 2024 and spent all of last season on the Yankees' 40-man roster before being outrighted in February. Shewmake had remained in New York's organization to start the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, slashing .250/.314/.313 with no home runs and one stolen base over 36 plate appearances. He'll likely head to Triple-A Sugar Land with his new organization.

Sent outright to Triple-A Shewmake was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.

Impact Shewmake was booted from the 40-man roster Thursday after the Yankees claimed Osvaldo Bido off waivers. Shewmake appears destined to begin the 2026 campaign at Triple-A, where he hit .243 with four home runs, 29 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 85 games a year ago.

Impact The move frees a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim Osvaldo Bido. Shewmake spent all of the 2025 season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, slashing .244/.318/.362 with four homers and 15 steals in 85 games. The 28-year-old infielder does not have minor-league options remaining, which will likely affect his appeal on waivers.

FEBRUARY 5 • ROTOWIRE

Healthy again at Triple-A Shewmake (undisclosed) has gone 1-for-9 with a walk in three games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Wednesday.

Impact Shewmake missed about a month of action due to the unspecified injury. The 27-year-old infielder possesses a spot on the Yankees' 40-man roster but has spent the entirety of the 2025 season at Triple-A, slashing .228/.317/.364 with four home runs and nine steals in 49 games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

JULY 28, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Shelved at Triple-A Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre placed Shewmake on its 7-day injured list Wednesday due to an unspecified injury.

Impact Shewmake possesses a spot on the Yankees' 40-man roster but has spent the entire 2025 season in the minors. Over his 173 plate appearances with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Shewmake has slashed .235/.324/.379 with four home runs and nine stolen bases.

JULY 2, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Optioned to Triple-A Shewmake was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.

Impact Shewmake will open the season at Triple-A after going 1-for-12 with three strikeouts and a run scored over six games during spring training. The infielder will look to get into more of a groove at the plate with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in order to potentially earn a promotion to the major-league roster down the road this summer.
