INJURIES

Re-signs with Houston The Astros re-signed Shewmake to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact After spending over three months with Houston to start the season before being traded to Milwaukee, Shewmake is back with the Astros. Between Houston and Milwaukee this season, the 28-year-old has slashed .259/.270/.424 with three home runs in 91 plate appearances.
JULY 31 • ROTOWIRE
Hits open market Shewmake rejected an outright assignment to Triple-A Nashville and elected free agency Tuesday, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.
Impact The utility infielder was designated for assignment by the Brewers last week and had the ability to reject an outright assignment since he's been DFA'd before. Shewmake has played in 34 games between Houston and Milwaukee this year and has a .259/.270/.424 slash line with four home runs in 91 plate appearances.
JULY 28 • ROTOWIRE
Sent outright to Triple-A The Brewers outrighted Shewmake to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact Since he's been outrighted previously, Shewmake has the ability to elect free agency. If he accepts the outright assignment, he will report to Nashville as infield depth. Shewmake is a career .196/.206/.320 hitter over parts of three major-league seasons.

Brewers activate David Hamilton from injured list and designate Braden Shewmake for assignment

Milwaukee Brewers infielder David Hamilton has come off the injured list after recovering from a left hamstring strain
JULY 24 • Associated Press
DFA'd by Milwaukee The Brewers designated Shewmake for assignment Friday, Hunter Baumgardt of Fox Sports 920 Milwaukee reports.
Impact Shewmake's stint with the Brewers ends after less than two weeks with the big-league club. After appearing in four games, the 28-year-old went 2-for-7 with a double, one RBI, two runs scored and three strikeouts. Milwaukee reinstated David Hamilton from the 10-day injured list to take Shewmake's spot on the active roster.

Brewers overcome early deficit in 8-6 victory over skidding Marlins

Jackson Chourio put Milwaukee ahead with a two-run single in a four-run sixth inning that sent the Brewers past the skidding Miami Marlins 8-6
JULY 19 • Associated Press
Lands in Milwaukee The Brewers acquired Shewmake from the Astros on Sunday in exchange for cash, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact After Houston designated Shewmake for assignment Friday, the Brewers acted quickly to execute a trade for the utility infielder rather than allowing him to reach waivers first. Milwaukee designated Greg Jones for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster for Shewmake, who will serve as a backup option at three spots in the infield. Shewmake had produced a .256/.272/.423 slash line with three home runs and nine RBI across 83 plate appearances with Houston this season.

Astros reinstate shortstop Jeremy Peña from 10-day injured list

The Houston Astros have reinstated shortstop Jeremy Peña from the 10-day injured list, and he was the leadoff batter for their series opener against the Texas Rangers
JULY 10 • Associated Press
Designated for assignment The Astros designated Shewmake for assignment Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact With Jeremy Pena (calf) back from the injured list, Shewmake loses his spot on the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old has slashed .256/.272/.423 with three homers, nine RBI, 10 runs scored and a 2:13 BB:K across 83 plate appearances with Houston this season.
JULY 10 • ROTOWIRE
Taking seat against southpaw Shewmake is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.
Impact Shewmake will join fellow left-handed hitters LaMonte Wade and Taylor Trammell on the bench while the Astros stock up on some extra right-handed bats to counter Nationals southpaw Foster Griffin. Nick Allen will replace Shewmake at shortstop Wednesday, though both players are likely to see their opportunities in the middle infield dwindle this weekend, when Jeremy Pena (calf) is expected to return from the injured list.
JULY 8 • ROTOWIRE
Activated, will start Monday The Astros reinstated Shewmake (adductor) from the 10-day injured list Monday, and he'll start at shortstop and bat eighth in the team's series opener in Washington, Chandler Rome...
Impact Shewmake is back with Houston after a right adductor strain kept him on the shelf for just over a month. The 28-year-old completed a four-game rehab assignment between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Triple-A Sugar Land over the past week, going 3-for-11 with two doubles, three walks and one stolen base. Shewmake could temporarily supplant Nick Allen as the Astros' preferred option at shortstop, though both will be relegated to bench roles when Jeremy Pena (calf) likely makes his return from the IL later this week.

In midst of rehab assignment Shewmake (adductor) has gone 3-for-9 with two doubles, three walks, one stolen base, three runs and one RBI over three rehab games between the rookie-level Florida Complex League a...
Impact Shewmake began the minor-league assignment Saturday, appearing in two games in the FCL before moving to Triple-A on Wednesday. The 28-year-old is working his way back from a right adductor strain, which sent him to the injured list June 2. Once he's ready to rejoin Houston, Shewmake is likely to serve as a utility infielder.
JULY 2 • ROTOWIRE
Resumes running The Astros announced Monday that Shewmake (adductor) has taken part in baseball activity and is working his way through a running progression at the team's facility in Florida, Mat...
Impact Shewmake is making progress in his recovery from the right adductor strain that sent him to the injured list June 2, but the fact that he's conducting his rehab in Florida rather than with Houston suggests that his return isn't imminent. Once Shewmake eventually recovers from the adductor injury, he'll likely have to settle for a utility infield role now that Jose Altuve has beaten him back from the IL.

Astros get a major bullpen boost as closer Josh Hader returns from the 60-day IL

All-Star closer Josh Hader has been reinstated from the 60-day injured list by Houston after sitting out all season, giving the Astros bullpen a major boost
JUNE 2 • Associated Press
Out with adductor strain The Astros placed Shewmake on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right adductor strain.
Impact Shewmake suffered the injury during Saturday's game versus the Brewers and was unable to make enough improvement to avoid the IL. He'll be eligible to return in mid-June, but it's the type of injury that could lead to longer than a minimum absence.
JUNE 2 • ROTOWIRE
Out of Sunday's lineup Shewmake is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Shewmake exited Saturday's contest due to groin soreness and will sit for at least one game. Nick Allen is picking up a start at second base for Houston in the series finale.
MAY 31 • ROTOWIRE
Battling groin soreness Shewmake was removed from Saturday's game against the Brewers with right groin soreness.
Impact Shewmake went 0-for-2 with a strikeout before leaving the game in the fifth inning. The Astros may have more information regarding the 28-year-old's status after the game, though Nick Allen could be in line for reps at the keystone if Shewmake ends up needing to miss time.
MAY 30 • ROTOWIRE
Taking seat against southpaw Shewmake is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
Impact With southpaw Shota Imanaga on the bump for the Cubs, the left-handed-hitting Shewmake will retreat to the bench after going 0-for-5 with a walk and a run scored while starting the first two games of the series at second base. Brice Matthews will fill in for Shewmake at the keystone Sunday.
MAY 24 • ROTOWIRE
Hitting bench Wednesday Shewmake is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.
Impact The Astros will go with Jeremy Pena at shortstop and Brice Matthews at second base in the series finale, bringing an end to Shewmake's run of nine consecutive starts. Since being acquired from the Yankees in late April and being added to the big-league roster, Shewmake is hitting .291 with three home runs and seven RBI through his first 19 games with Houston. With Pena and Jake Meyers recently returning from the injured list to reclaim everyday roles at shortstop and in center field, respectively, Shewmake and Matthews will jockey for playing time at the keystone.
