Making spring debut Wednesday
Gomber (back) is slated to start Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Angels, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact
He's expected to work two innings before turning the game over to a cadre of relievers. Gomber didn't make any appearances after Aug. 28 last season due to lower-back inflammation, but he seems to have received a clean bill of health heading into spring training. After agreeing to a one-year, $3.15 million deal with the Rockies in the offseason to avoid arbitration, Gomber's rotation spot should be fairly secure heading into Opening Day.

Settles at $3.15 million
Gomber (back) signed a one-year, $3.15 million contract with the Rockies on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Gomber finished 2023 with a 5.50 ERA and 1.49 WHIP through 139 innings, but his numbers became much more respectable when pitching away from Coors Field (3.68 ERA and 1.37 WHIP through 63.2 frames). The 30-year-old southpaw missed the final month of the season due to back inflammation, and the Rockies have yet to offer an update on his status during the offseason.

Shut down with back injury
Colorado placed Gomber on the 60-day injured list Friday with lower-back inflammation.
Impact
This doesn't sound like an overly serious diagnosis, but Gomber has been battling back issues for a while and the Rockies will go ahead and shut him down for the final three weeks of the 2023 regular season. The 29-year-old left-hander finishes with a 9-9 record, 5.50 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 87:43 K:BB in 27 starts covering 139 innings.

Bound for injured list
Gomber (back) will be placed on the 15-day injured list prior to Friday's game in San Francisco, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Gomber has dealt with a nagging back issue and the Rockies have apparently decided to finally shut him down for a bit. The left-hander will be eligible for activation on September 22, but it's unclear at this juncture whether he'll be ready to rejoin the rotation at that time. Reliever Victor Vodnik is taking Gomber's spot on the roster.

Will miss Sunday start
Gomber (back) will not pitch as scheduled Sunday against the Blue Jays, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Impact
Rockies manager Bud Black said Wednesday that it was possible Gomber could be skipped in the rotation due to soreness in his lower back, and that has now been confirmed. Luckily, it seems Gomber will be able to avoid the injured list and could still be able to return for his next turn through the rotation -- tentatively scheduled for Sept. 9 against San Francisco.

Could be skipped in rotation
Rockies manager Bud Black said Wednesday that Gomber (back) could be skipped on his next turn in the rotation, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact
Gomber made an early exit from his last start Monday versus Atlanta due to back soreness, and Colorado has two off days within the next week that would allow for a temporarily thin starting mix. The 29-year-old southpaw was still experiencing soreness in his back as of Wednesday evening, though it sounds like he should be able to avoid the 15-day IL even if he requires a bit of extra rest.

Nagging back issues
Gomber's departure from Monday's start versus Atlanta was due to back soreness, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact
Gomber has evidently been battling back issues for the past month and it flared up on him Monday, necessitating his removal in the third inning. For what it's worth, the left-hander said after the game that he believes he can avoid the injured list. "I wouldn't say I'm worried," Gomber said. "I don't feel specifically worse than I felt the past couple of weeks."

Exits start early
Gomber was removed from Monday's start against Atlanta due to an undisclosed injury, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact
Gomber received a visit from the team trainer and skipper Bud Black with two outs in the top of the third inning, and he was walked off the mound shortly after. The reason for his departure is unclear at this time, so he'll be considered day-to-day until further notice.

Quality start wasted
Gomber came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Rays, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.
Impact
The southpaw exited the game after 82 pitches (54 strikes) in line for his career-high 10th win of the season, but the Rockies bullpen imploded late. The quality start was Gomber's fifth in eight trips to the mound since the All-Star break, a stretch in which he's posted a 3.69 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB through 46.1 innings. He figures to be an extremely risky play in his next outing, which is likely to come at home in Coors Field early next week against Atlanta.

ROTOWIRE
Lit up in no-decision
Gomber did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing six runs on seven hits and three walks over 5.1 innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out one.
Impact
After giving up a two-run home run to Christian Walker in the opening frame, Gomber actually seemed to find his groove, hurling four shutout innings. However, the lefty fell apart in the sixth, walking three of the first five batters he faced while also surrendering two hits, which would lead to four more runs coming across for Arizona. Despite allowing six runs, Gomber was able to escape with the no-decision, though he's now given up at least six hits in seven straight starts. He's also issued three walks in two of his last three outings while the six runs were the most he's allowed since June 9 against the Padres.
