Impact Gomber was ruled out for the season Saturday after being placed on the 10-day IL with spondyloysis, a stress fracture in the bones of the lower spine, so it was only a matter of time before he moved to the 60-day IL to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. The left-hander finished his first year in Colorado with a 4.53 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 113:41 K:BB across 115.1 innings (23 starts). It's not yet clear if he'll be ready for the start of spring training in February.

Impact The condition Gomber is dealing with is called spondylolysis or pars defect, a stress fracture of the bones of the lower spine. Gomber ends his first season with Colorado with a 9-9 record, 4.53 ERA and 1.24 WHIP across 115.1 innings. It's uncertain whether he'll be a full go for the start of spring training. Gomber will be transferred to the 60-day IL on Sunday to make room on the 40-man roster for Ryan Feltner.

Struggles with command in loss Gomber (9-9) allowed four runs on four hits and six walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings in a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.

Impact Gomber needed 89 pitches to get through 13 outs in Tuesday's outing as he struggled significantly with his command. The six walks were the most he's had since his 2021 debut against the Dodgers on April 4, during which he issued seven free passes in just three innings. He had no trouble in the opening frame Tuesday but then went on to give up four runs over the next 3.1 innings, including two solo home runs. The left-hander now has three losses in his last four outings and owns a 4.53 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 113:41 K:BB over 115.1 innings. He's tentatively lined up for a meeting against Atlanta his next time out.

Gomber has struggled over his past three outings, giving up 13 earned runs across 13.2 frames. On the plus side, he struck out eight batters Wednesday, tied for his second-highest single-game mark in 2021. Gomber will carry a 4.38 ERA into his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to come at Texas early next week.
