Impact Primarily an infielder since entering the professional ranks in 2015, Fletcher saw action in five games with Atlanta earlier this season and has been making regular starts at second base for Gwinnett since being outrighted off the 40-man roster in late April. However, the 29-year-old recently informed club officials that he had been tinkering with a knuckleball, and he impressed enough in workouts for the Gwinnett coaching staff to give him the chance to pitch in games earlier this month. Fletcher was tagged for six earned runs over six innings across his first four relief appearances for Gwinnett, but upon stepping into a starting role Wednesday, he delivered his lengthiest and best outing yet. Fletcher will likely need to turn in at least a few more quality performances on the mound for Gwinnett before Atlanta contemplates bringing him back on the big-league roster as a pitcher and utility infielder. There's also the matter of an ongoing investigation from Major League Baseball into Fletcher's involvement with the same Southern California bookmaker used by Shohei Ohtani's former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara. According to Tisha Thompson of ESPN.com, sources familiar with the booking operation relay that Fletcher didn't place any bets on baseball, but clarity on whether Fletcher will receive any punishment related to his gambling activities won't become clear until the investigation concludes.

Spencer Schwellenbach - Defeated in big-league debut Schwellenbach (0-1) took the loss against Washington on Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five batters over five innings.
Impact Schwellenbach got his first big-league opportunity despite having not pitched above the Double-A level in the minors. The right-hander was locked in through four scoreless frames, but had to settle for a so-so debut after Lane Thomas tagged him for a three-run homer in the fifth. Schwellenbach did show some positive traits with 60 of 88 pitches thrown for strikes and 11 whiffs, and there's a good chance he fared well enough to earn at least one more turn in the rotation.

Reynaldo López - Not starting Thursday Lopez won't start Thursday's game against the Nationals, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Impact Lopez pitched on four days of rest for the second time all season Saturday, allowing three runs (two earned) in 4.2 innings -- his shortest start of the season. Rather than sending him to the mound after a traditional four-day rest period again, Atlanta will push his next start back and give the ball to Ray Kerr to close out its current series against Washington. The team hasn't yet announced when Lopez's next start will come, though it's possible he simply moves back a day to start Friday's series opener against the Athletics.

Impact Reynaldo Lopez was originally scheduled to start Thursday's series finale, but Atlanta will instead give Kerr another shot after he allowed five earned runs in four innings during his first MLB start last Friday in Pittsburgh. The 29-year-old southpaw owns a 5.40 ERA and 1.27 WHIP through 13.1 innings this season and has never pitched more than four innings in a game throughout his career.

Impact Wendle signed a big-league contract with Atlanta on Friday, but he was DFA'd three days later without playing in a game and will now join the team's Triple-A affiliate. The 34-year-old infielder has played in 18 games this season for the Mets, slashing .222/.243/.250 across 37 plate appearances.

Impact Atlanta is a sensible landing spot for Laureano after the club lost star right fielder Ronald Acuna (knee) to a season-ending ACL tear over the weekend. Though Laureano won't immediately join the big club and is likely to report to Triple-A Gwinnett, he could be an option to serve as a fourth outfielder for Atlanta down the road or potentially unseat Jarred Kelenic or Adam Duvall for a starting role at a corner spot. Laureano has been a better-than-league-average hitter over parts of seven seasons in the majors (107 wRC+ in 543 games), but he's struggled to find much success since being waived by the Athletics last August. He slashed just .143/.265/.229 in 83 plate appearances for the Guardians this season before being released Saturday.
