Mason Miller - Has mild UCL sprain Miller was diagnosed Tuesday with a mild UCL sprain in his right elbow, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Impact Miller paid a visit to Dr. Keith Meister after landing on the injured list last week with what was initially labeled as right elbow inflammation. He's going to be shut down from throwing for a while, but the A's believe the talented 24-year-old will manage to return before the end of the season. Miller had worked to a 3.38 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB through his first 21.1 major-league innings (four starts) prior to the IL stint.

Ryan Noda - Out of lineup Tuesday Noda is out of the starting lineup against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Impact Noda has not gotten much playing time against southpaws, and the left-handed hitting first baseman gets a night off against Tommy Henry and the Diamondbacks. Jesus Aguilar gets the start at first and will hit fifth against Henry and Arizona.

Paul Blackburn - Next rehab start set Blackburn (finger) is slated to make another rehab start for Triple-A Las Vegas later in the week, the Associated Press reports.

Impact After a blister and a subsequent brief paternity leave put Blackburn's rehab assignment on hold for just under a month, the right-hander returned to action with the Aviators on Sunday and surrendered four earned runs over two innings and 41 pitches. Nevertheless, manager Mark Kotsay noted he'd received positive reports regarding the outing and confirmed Monday that Blackburn will toe the rubber in the minors again later in the week. If there's an appreciable bump in pitch count and improved performance during that outing, Blackburn may be deemed ready for activation soon thereafter.

Adrián Martínez - Effective in IL return Martinez, activated from the injured list earlier in the day, fired two scoreless innings in which he allowed a hit and recorded two strikeouts.

Impact The right-hander needed just 22 pitches to record his six outs, a highly efficient outing that stood in stark contrast to both his prior body of work at the big-league level and during his recent rehab assignment. Martinez had allowed nine earned runs over the last two appearances before going on the injured list, and he'd subsequently given up four runs on seven hits over 2.1 innings in his pair of minor-league turns.

Esteury Ruiz - Swipes 19th base Ruiz went 1-for-4 with an RBI single and a stolen base in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Impact Ruiz continued to produce out of the top of the order, delivering the Athletics' first run of the game on his third-inning single and has now reached safely in 20 of his last 21 games. The speedy outfielder also leads the majors in steals with 19, with 14 of those coming in the aforementioned stretch.
