Impact Aquino's performance in August of 2019 remains one of the most impressive of all time for a rookie, as he hit .320/.391/.767 with 14 homers. The contrast between his numbers from that month and his numbers since then couldn't be more stark, however, as he's slashed a miserable .173/.262/.357 since September of 2019. Things have gotten even worse for him this year, as he's slumped to a .049/.093/.122 slash line while striking out 53.5 percent of the time. Even the rebuilding Reds didn't see the point in waiting for him to turn things around, which may not bode well for his ability to latch on somewhere else. The move clears space for the Reds to select Connor Overton's contract.

Impact Aquino started the Reds' last nine games, but he will be held out Saturday with fellow outfielder Tyler Naquin returning to action. With the Reds' top three outfielders now healthy, Aquino -- who has just two hits all season -- will likely fill a reserve role moving forward.

Impact With a southpaw (MacKenzie Gore) on the hill for San Diego, the righty-hitting Aquino will get the nod in right field over Jake Fraley. Both Aquino and Fraley could form a platoon in right while Tyler Naquin (illness) is on the COVID-19 injured list, while Nick Senzel and Tommy Pham should occupy the other two spots in the outfield in most games. Aquino has now started in eight consecutive games, though a number of his starts came while Senzel was on the COVID-19 IL. Even on days Fraley mans right field, Aquino could still have a path to at-bats at designated hitter while the Reds are without all of Naquin, Jonathan India (hamstring), Mike Moustakas (biceps), Tyler Stephenson (concussion), Donovan Solano (hamstring) and Max Schrock (calf).

Impact Aquino got another start for the Reds despite striking out in all four of his plate appearances Wednesday. He struck out two more times Thursday but produced a big two-run blast that provided the team's first runs and chased Walker Buehler from the contest during the sixth inning. Aquino's power can be tantalizing, but his massive strikeout numbers limit his playing time and make him mostly an afterthought in fantasy.
