Starts up throwing program
Nardi (back) began a throwing program Monday, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.
Impact
He'll likely gradually increase his throwing distance off flat ground over the next week or two before moving on to mound work. Nardi was shut down in early March due to lower back inflammation and was placed on the 60-day injured list, so he won't be eligible to make his 2025 debut with the Marlins until at least late May.

Placed on 60-day IL
The Marlins placed Nardi on the 60-day injured list Saturday with lower-back inflammation.
Impact
A setback in Nardi's recovery from a lower-back injury has kept him shut down from throwing since March 5. His status for Opening Day had been in question, but moving to the 60-day IL will ensure he remains out until at least late May. His roster spot will be filled by Seth Martinez, who was claimed off waivers from the Mariners on Saturday.

Shut down after setback
Nardi has halted his throwing program after feeling more tightness in his back, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Nardi came into camp with a back injury and had been ramping things up, but now he's suffered a setback. He will be re-evaluated in the coming days, and his readiness for Opening Day would now appear very much in question.

Plays catch Monday
Nardi (back) played catch Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Recovering from a lower-back injury, Nardi has a rest day Tuesday and then will play catch again Wednesday if he feels up to it. The left-hander should have time to get ready for Opening Day if he progresses well from here on out, but it doesn't seem as though he's particularly close to pitching in a game.

Dealing with lower-back injury
Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said Wednesday that Nardi is dealing with lower-back inflammation, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact
McCullough revealed last week that Nardi would be behind schedule at the start of camp, but he didn't disclose the nature of the injury at the time. The good news is the injury is not related to the elbow issue that caused the lefty to miss the final five-plus weeks of the 2024 season. If healthy, Nardi will be in the mix for high-leverage innings in the Marlins' bullpen.

Will be behind at start of camp
Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said Friday that Nardi (elbow) will be behind at the start of spring training after something flared up over the offseason, Christina De Nicola o...
Impact
McCullough didn't disclose the nature of the injury, but it's probably safe to assume it's related to the left elbow injury that caused Nardi to miss the final five-plus weeks of the 2024 season. The skipper noted that the team is still waiting for further clarity on the severity of Nardi's injury. If healthy, Nardi could be in the mix for saves in 2025. He held a 5.07 ERA but a 70:18 K:BB over 49.2 innings last season.

Moves to 60-day IL
The Marlins transferred Nardi (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Saturday.
Impact
Nardi initially landed on the injured list Aug. 24, so his move to the 60-day IL will officially rule him out for the rest of the season. The 26-year-old southpaw will close the book on 2024 with a 5.07 ERA and 1.25 WHIP alongside a 70:18 K:BB across 49.2 innings.

Lands on IL with elbow injury
The Marlins placed Nardi on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Thursday, due to a left elbow injury.
Impact
It's unclear when Nardi picked up the injury, though he did get roughed up against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, when he gave up two runs on two hits and one walk while recording just one out. Prior to Wednesday, Nardi recorded six holds in his last 14 outings with a 3.29 ERA and 0.95 WHIP across 13.2 innings. Miami recalled right-hander George Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

Deployed in sixth inning Wednesday
Nardi collected his 12th hold of the season in Wednesday's win over the Rays, walking one and striking out three in a scoreless sixth inning.
Impact
The southpaw was considered the favorite to take over closing duties for the Marlins after Tanner Scott was traded to the Padres, but instead manager Skip Schumaker called on Nardi in the sixth inning Wednesday to protect a 4-2 lead. Miami wound up adding to its lead in the seventh, eliminating a potential save chance, but it still wasn't encouraging usage for any fantasy GMs hoping Nardi will pick up saves down the stretch. Anthony Bender, another potential closing option, was called on in the eighth inning after the lead was extended to 6-2, leaving the bullpen picture for the Marlins very murky.

Could be next in line to close
Nardi might step into the closer role if Tanner Scott is traded, Kaushik Sampath of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Nardi had a brutal start to the season, getting tagged for eight runs in his first four appearances, but since then the lefty has produced a palatable 3.50 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB through 36 innings. Scott becomes a free agent in the offseason and is almost certain to be dealt by next week's trade deadline, and with A.J. Puk now in Arizona, the path to the ninth inning could be fairly clear for Nardi. Huascar Brazoban could also be in the mix for closing duties in the wake of a Scott trade.

ROTOWIRE
Notches third save
Nardi recorded his third save of the season in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets, walking one and striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.
Impact
With Tanner Scott (paternity leave) unavailable, Nardi wound up getting the save chance as A.J. Puk, David Robertson and Matt Moore had already combined to throw 3.2 innings of scoreless relief in the nightcap. Nardi has been scored upon only once in his last 15 appearances, posting a 0.61 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB through 14.2 innings since Aug. 19 with two wins and eight holds, but the save was his first since June 18.

Struggles with command
Nardi (hand) recorded one out and allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out one in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Phillies.
Impact
Nardi allowed three of the four batters he faced to reach base, and he was promptly removed with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. The reliever was struck on his left hand by a comebacker at the end of August, but he's appeared in three contests since.

Impact
The southpaw will likely still miss some time after getting hit in his throwing hand, but Nardi and the Marlins seem to have avoided what could've easily been a much-worse outcome. David Robertson and Steven Okert should figure to see an uptick in high-leverage opportunities while Nardi recovers.

Injured by comebacker
Nardi was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rays after getting hit in the left hand by a comebacker, Steve Carney of StPeteNine.com reports.
Impact
Nardi will go in for imaging on his hand, and the Marlins should provide an update on his status in the near future. Until more is known, he should be considered day-to-day.

Activated from injured list
Nardi (triceps) was activated Tuesday from the 15-day injured list, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Nardi will return to the Marlins' bullpen Tuesday night against the Phillies after missing three weeks with left triceps inflammation. The 24-year-old southpaw has registered a steady 3.19 ERA and 48:11 K:BB through 36.2 major-league innings this season.

Delivers clean rehab outing
Nardi (triceps) struck out two over a perfect inning of relief in his first rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A Jacksonville.
Impact
Nardi has been on the shelf since July 4 with left triceps inflammation and could require another appearance or two in the minors before the Marlins are willing to bring him back from the 15-day injured list. Prior to being deactivated, Nardi compiled a 3.19 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 36.2 innings while picking up two saves and seven holds.

Completes side session
Nardi (triceps) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
McPherson notes that while Nardi didn't face hitters, he structured the bullpen session to simulate a multi-inning appearance. The left-hander is expected to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment in the near future and might be ready to return from the 15-day injured list as soon as next week.
