Making rehab start
Wood (back) will make his second rehab start at the Giants' alternate site Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Wood underwent a minor back procedure in mid-March. It's unclear exactly when he's expected to return, but he'll likely be ready for his season debut fairly soon.

Placed on injured list
Wood (back) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Wood is slated to miss the first several weeks of the season after he underwent a minor back procedure in mid-March. He's currently working through a throwing program. Aaron Sanchez will serve as San Francisco's fifth starter while Wood is sidelined.

Missing first couple weeks
Wood (back) will open the season on the injured list and miss the first couple weeks of the season, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Wood has missed most of March while recovering from a minor back procedure. He's working his way through a throwing progression but won't be ready for game action until at least mid-April. Aaron Sanchez lines up as the fifth starter in his absence.

Likely to begin season on IL
Wood (back) threw a bullpen session Saturday, but is likely to begin the season on the injured list, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact
Back troubles, which eventually required a minor surgical procedure, have kept Wood from appearing in game action since March 9. While it's a positive that he's throwing again, it doesn't sound like he'll be read to pitch in a regular season game until mid-April at the earliest. Aaron Sanchez will likely begin the season as the fifth starter as a result.

Scheduled to pitch Saturday
Wood (back) is on the schedule to pitch Saturday against Seattle, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Back troubles, which eventually required a minor surgical procedure, have kept Wood from appearing in game action since March 9. While it's certainly a positive that he's scheduled to pitch again soon, it would be a surprise if he has enough time to get up to speed by Opening Day just five days later. Given Wood's extensive injury history, the Giants have every reason to be cautious with him, though it doesn't look as though he'll miss too much time if he does indeed open on the injured list.

Another bullpen on tap
Wood (back) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact
The 30-year-old completed a bullpen session Monday and was expected to progress to live batting practice later this week, but he'll instead throw another bullpen session. Wood is returning from an ablation procedure in his back and seems unlikely to be ready for the start of the season with only eight days until Opening Day.

Throws bullpen session
Wood (back) threw a bullpen session Monday and will progress to live batting practice later in the week, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact
Wood was reportedly sitting between 88-91 mph with his fastball in the session, roughly in line with his velocity the last few seasons. He underwent a minor back procedure on March 16, though the Giants are still hopeful that he will be ready to begin the season. Wood is currently in competition with Logan Webb for the final rotation spot, even if he proves healthy.

Plays catch
Wood (back) played catch Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact
Wood underwent a minor procedure on his back Tuesday, but it apparently didn't throw his schedule off too much, as he's already throwing again. While that's certainly a positive sign, there's no guarantee he'll be ready to pitch by Opening Day and no guarantee he'll start the year in the rotation even if healthy.

To have minor procedure
Wood will have an ablation procedure for his back, but the Giants aren't yet ruling him out for Opening Day, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The procedure involves burning away an inflamed nerve. Even if he does open the year on the injured list, it sounds like his absence will be weeks, not months. Logan Webb may make the rotation on merit anyway, but this only increases his chances.

Will see specialist
Wood (back) is scheduled to visit a spine specialist, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Wood was scratched from his last scheduled start due to back stiffness, and the lefty is now set to undergo further evaluation. The extent of Wood's absence remains unknown for the time being.

Dealing with back stiffness
Wood won't make his next spring start as scheduled due to back stiffness, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact
The left-hander was expected to take the mound in the next day or two since his previous start was Tuesday versus Milwaukee, but he's been pushed back due to the injury. The severity of the injury remains unclear, but Wood's status for Opening Day could be affected if he's unable to throw for more than a few days.

Adjusts delivery
Wood adjusted his posture in his delivery during the offseason, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact
Wood said Thursday that he likes the way his slider looks following his offseason adjustment, as he's able to get better depth on the pitch. He's also working on a new changeup grip that he called a "work in progress." The veteran lefty started Thursday's spring game against the White Sox, tossing tossed one clean inning while striking out one batter. Wood is competing for a back-end rotation spot with the Giants during spring training after signing a one-year deal with the team in January. He made nine appearances (two starts) for the Dodgers last season, posting a 6.39 ERA and 15:6 K:BB over 12.2 innings.
