INJURIES

Goes long in loss Kirilloff went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.
Impact Kirilloff took Marco Gonzales deep to center field to break a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning. It was the 23-year-old's first long ball since May 2 and his first RBI in 10 days. He hasn't been particularly impressive, as he's slashing .254/.292/.443 with 5 home runs, 19 RBI and 15 runs scored through his first two months at the major-league level. Things should naturally become easier for him as he continues to get more reps.

Impact Kirilloff suffered an ankle sprain Thursday, but was able to return to the lineup for the first two games of the series against Houston. The outfielder will get a breather Sunday with Minnesota going up against southpaw Framber Valdez. Rob Refsnyder will return from a hamstring issue to start in right field Sunday.

Considered day-to-day Kirilloff (ankle) is considered day-to-day after suffering an ankle sprain Thursday against the Yankees, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact Manager Rocco Baldelli elaborated that Kirilloff might need a day or two to recover, but the skipper sounded optimistic that placement on the injured list would not be necessary. That's promising news for both Kirilloff and the Twins, who are also currently without Byron Buxton (hip) and Max Kepler (hamstring).

Dealing with ankle sprain Kirilloff exited Thursday's game with a low-grade left ankle sprain, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports
Impact Kirilloff suffered the injury while attempting to play a ball near the wall early in the game. Though Byron Buxton (hip) is nearing a return, any extended absence for Kirilloff will continue to test the Twins' outfield depth. It's unclear whether a stint on the injured list will be required.

Impact Kirilloff appeared to suffer the injury while playing a ball off the wall in the first inning. The severity is unknown at this time, though the Twins are already thin in the outfield due to a number of sidelined players. Gilberto Celestino entered the game in Kirilloff's place.

Day off Tuesday Kirilloff is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees.
Impact Kirilloff is 3-for-17 over his past five games and will take a seat Tuesday with lefty Jordan Montgomery starting for New York. Trevor Larnach and Kyle Garlick will cover the corner outfield spots for the Twins.

Riding pine Thursday Kirilloff is not in Thursday's lineup against the Royals.
Impact The Twins' top prospect has started 12 straight games, with three of those coming against left-handed starters, so while a lefty (Kris Bubic) is on the hill for Kansas City, this seems like just a standard day off. He is hitting .265 with zero home runs, 14 strikeouts and four walks in 49 at-bats since returning from a wrist injury May 21. Kyle Garlick will start in right field while Trevor Larnach starts in left.

On base four times Sunday Kirilloff went 3-for-4 with three singles and a walk in Sunday's 6-3 loss to Kansas City.
Impact Despite a productive day at the plate, Kirilloff didn't get involved in any run-scoring plays. He produced three of Minnesota's five hits in the game, although the team also drew seven walks. The outfielder is slashing .256/.289/.474 with four home runs, 15 RBI, 12 runs scored and no stolen bases in 83 plate appearances this year. He's mainly hitting between third and fifth in the order, which should put him in a good position to get involved on offense.

Impact Even with Nelson Cruz (wrist) returning from a six-game absence, Kirilloff will retain a prominent spot in the lineup with Luis Arraez (shoulder) heading to the injured list and with Josh Donaldson resting Wednesday. Kirilloff is being rewarded with the cleanup assignment after he went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in Tuesday's 7-4 win. The rookie is slashing .333/.364/.429 in his five games since returning from the IL last week.
