Demoted to backup
Green is not starting Saturday's game against Houston, The Roost reports.
Impact
Green struggled in last week's opener, going 12-of-25 for 152 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. His uninspiring performance will lead the Owls to go with Luke McCaffrey at quarterback to begin Saturday's contest instead.

Struggles in opening game
Green went 12-for-25 for 152 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions against Arkansas on Saturday.
Impact
Green somewhat surprisingly beat out Luke McCaffrey for the starting job prior to this game, but both guys were expected to get snaps. Both did, and McCaffrey was the better of the two. Green struggled so much that it wouldn't be surprising if McCaffrey started next week against Houston.

Co-starter for opener
Green is listed as a co-starter for Saturday's opener against Arkansas, Steve Helwick of SB Nation reports.
Impact
Green attempted just 10 passes all of last season but was competing with transfer Luke McCaffrey to hold down the starting gig entering 2021. It appears the competition may not be fully settled yet and it's possible both will see the field in some capacity Saturday.

Competing for starting job
Green is competing with Luke McCaffrey for Rice's starting quarterback spot, Steve Helwick of Underdog Dynasty reports.
Impact
Green saw significant action in both 2018 and 2019 but took a back seat to Mik Collins last year. After learning from Collins, Green is back in the mix competing for the starting gig alongside Nebraska transfer Luke McCaffrey. Head coach Mike Bloomgren indicated that since McCaffrey is new to the team this fall, the staff wants to give him adequate time to compete for the job before naming a starter for Week 1.
