Will Hammond - Officially named starter for 2026 Hammond (knee) has officially been named Texas Tech's starter ahead of the 2026 season, per RedRaiderSports.com.

Impact This was widely expected to be the case in and outside of Lubbock as soon as Brendan Sorsby was deemed ineligible to play due to his gambling scandal. Hammond saw action last fall, tossing for 680 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions on 63.3 percent completion rate while rushing for 299 yards and five touchdowns. However, he's still dealing with a knee injury that's limited his involvement this offseason, although head coach Joey McGuire recently asserted that he expects Hammond to be ready for Week 1.
