Impact Hilinski was thought to be the leading candidate to win the quarterback role after transferring from South Carolina. He'll likely enter the season as the backup quaterback. Given Johnson's struggles when he was the starting quarterback in 2019, it wouldn't be shocking if Hilinski got a chance to play at some point during the season. Since he earned his undergraduate degree in just two years, Hilinski will be able to compete immediately for Northwestern in 2021 with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
