Impact Hilinski struggled in the loss by going 10-of-22 for 147 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He was benched in the first half after throwing an interception and then suffered the injury when entering the game again in the second half. Even if Hilinski is able to play, it looks like Northwestern may permanently switch quarterbacks to Brendan Sullivan given Hilinksi's recent struggles. Hilinski has a 2:5 TD:QB ratio in his last four games and the Wildcats have struggled to score points.

As a result, the junior transfer finished with a season-low 40.5 completion percentage and a mediocre 5.7 yards per attempt. Hilinski did find wide receiver Jacob Gill for a wide-open 47-yard receiving touchdown in the third quarter, but he was later stopped short of the goal line on a quarterback sneak with 12 minutes remaining. The passer's next game will come at home against division rival Wisconsin on Oct. 8.

The junior transfer also failed to connect on a passing touchdown for the first time this year, though he did sneak in a one-yard rushing score in the first quarter. Hilinski also averaged 5.5 yards per attempt Saturday, and he will next face two of the toughest passing defenses on Northwestern's schedule with Penn State and Wisconsin in Weeks 5 and 6, respectively.

Impact Hilinski had thrown for 749 yards and a 4:1 TD:INT ratio in his first two games, but struggled against a FCS opponent in Saturday's upset loss, so don't read too much into this performance. It's hard to have any confidence in the Northwestern offense, however, but the Wildcats may be consistently playing from behind giving Hilinski plenty of attempts.

Impact Northwestern begins its season Aug. 27 in Ireland against Nebraska, so a decision on the starting quarterback is expected soon. Hilinski wasn't impressive when given a shot at the starting job last year as he completed 54 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and four interceptions. It's possible both quaterbacks could play early in the season until a clear winner of the job emerges.
