Same Faces, New Places: How College Football's Transfer QBs Are Making An Impact

Daylyn Upshaw - Finds end zone in easy win Upshaw had two receptions (on three targets) for 31 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 52-3 victory versus Central Michigan.

Impact Upshaw was once again limited to just a handful of catches and yards, but he found the end zone for the second time this season and the first time since the opener. With Malachi Toney and Cooper Barkate leading the way in this receiver room, don't expect big-time production out of Upshaw. Still, this Hurricanes' passing game can sustain several productive pass-catcher each week.

Cooper Barkate - Scores again for Hurricanes Barkate gathered in all four targets for 47 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 52-3 win versus Central Michigan.

Impact Barkate hasn't posted more than 67 receiving yards in a single game for Miami, but the wideout has also scored in three of four contests thus far in 2026. His rapport with Darian Mensah is evident, and he'll look to stay hot at Clemson in Week 5.

Javian Mallory - Finds end zone in blowout win Mallory totaled five carries for 30 yards and one touchdown and gathered in all two targets for 26 yards during Saturday's 52-3 victory against Central Michigan.

Impact Mallory remained an active part of this Miami ground game with Mark Fletcher (upper body) held out of the Hurricanes' easy win over Central Michigan as a precaution. Upon Fletcher's return, Mallory's role will shrink, but he'll still get a handful of touches each week as he's proven to be a capable back.

Chris Wheatley-Humphrey - Explodes in blowout Wheatley-Humphrey totaled 11 carries for 104 yards and one touchdown and hauled in their only target for seven yards during Saturday's 52-3 win over Central Michigan.

Impact Don't expect Wheatley-Humphrey to get too many more opportunities in a competitive game, but the reserve tailback certainly made the most of his carries against the hapless Chippewas in Week 4.

Darian Mensah - Shreds Central Michigan Mensah completed 23 of 27 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns during Saturday's 52-3 win against Central Michigan. He also had four rushes for 21 yards with one touchdown.

Impact Mensah was his typical uber-efficient, highly-productive self against the Chippewas. With 12 incompletions and 14 touchdowns through four games, he still has more touchdown passes than balls that have hit the turf which is absolutely remarkable this late into the season. He also added his first rushing touchdown of the season, but he only has 52 yards on the ground through four contests; don't expect that to become a regular part of his game.

Impact Fletcher was expected to play in Week 4, but the coaching staff ultimately held him out as a precaution. The star tailback should be ready to roll for Week 5 against Clemson, where he should resume his regular RB1 duties.

Jordan Lyle - Six carries and two receptions Lyle (not injury related) logged six rushes for 16 yards during Saturday's 52-3 win against Central Michigan.

Impact Lyle will look to enter October with a clean slate after facing driving charges this past month. 2026 marks the running back's third year with Miami, and if 2025 is any indication, the U will look to make use of his versatile skill set in the backfield and as a pass-catching option. Last season, for each game the junior was active, he logged at least three carries. Across six matchups, Lyle also recorded a target all but twice.

Malachi Toney - Great yet again Toney (undisclosed) logged six receptions for 120 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 52-3 win against Central Michigan.

Impact Even though an undisclosed problem affected Toney's injury status before Week 4, his excellence continued for another game. The wide receiver has logged triple-digit receiving yards in all but one of his last four matchups, and this time, he did not even need more than seven receptions to do it. Going back to last year's College Football Playoff, Toney has scored at least one touchdown in six consecutive games. In the month of September, he recorded 34 receptions for 564 yards (16.6 averaged per catch) and six touchdowns, easily establishing himself as a top-two wideout in all of college football.

Jordan Lyle - Dressed for Saturday's matchup Lyle (not injury related) is dressed and expected to play in Saturday's matchup versus Central Michigan, per Sebastian Font of CanesInsight.

Impact Lyle is expected to make his season debut after sitting out the first three games. Even if he ends up suiting up, Mark Fletcher, CharMar Brown and Javian Mallory could still end up handling the bulk of the workload.

Impact Fletcher was trending toward being available for this Week 4 contest, but the star RB didn't participate in warm-ups Saturday and won't be available after he was spotted in street clothes less than 30 minutes before kickoff. With Fletcher out, expect Javian Mallory and Girard Pringle to get most of the touches in the backfield.

Elija Lofton - Hauls in TD vs. Wake Forest Lofton caught 5 of 6 targets for 39 yards and one touchdown during Friday's 33-20 win against Wake Forest.

Impact Lofton had been extremely quiet through two games, with just two catches for 23 yards. In Week 3, Miami leaned on the tight end a lot more, quarterback Darian Mensah looked his way six times and he parlayed that into 39 yards and a score. This offense is awash with playmakers; Lofton might not always get the chance to contribute in a big way. Still, it was good to see the tight end get involved in Week 3.

Darian Mensah - Still has fewer incompletions than TD passes Mensah was 30-for-34 passing for 220 yards and three touchdowns during Friday's 33-20 win over Wake Forest.

Impact Mensah has been simply ridiculous this season. He only threw four incompletions against Wake Forest, and while that was more misfires than the number of touchdowns he tossed for for the first time in 2026, he was still extremely surgical. Miami's playmakers are so dangerous that all he needs to do is sit back and distribute the ball. He has a great chance at another excellent stat-line in Week 4 against Central Michigan. Through three games, Mensah has thrown just eight incompletions -- and 11 touchdowns. He's completing an absurd 90% of his passes.

Malachi Toney - Figures to be available against CMU Toney (undisclosed) is trending towards playing on Saturday against Central Michigan, per Adam Lichtenstein of the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Impact Toney was banged up in the Hurricanes' Friday night win over Wake Forest, but the wideout still managed to reel in 12 catches for 114 yards and a score. According to head coach Mario Cristobal, the superstar receiver looks "favorable" to play come Week 4. He's already racked up 28 catches for 444 yards and five touchdowns this fall.

Impact According to head coach Mario Cristobal, "everything looks favorable" with Fletcher and superstar wideout Malachi Toney, both of whom were banged up in the win over Wake Forest on Friday. That's huge news for Miami, as those are the Hurricanes' two best offensive weapons. Fletcher has 230 rushing yards and three touchdowns this fall.

Joshua Moore - Shut down for 2026 Moore (upper body) is out for the remainder of the 2026 season, per Pete Nakos of On3.com.

Impact Moore had seven catches for 107 yards and two scores through two games, but the wideout got banged up against Wake Forest on Friday night and is now set to miss the remainder of the season. This is a big hit to the Hurricanes' receiver room, but it remains loaded with the likes of Malachi Toney and Cooper Barkate.

CharMar Brown - Out for remainder of 2026 Brown (lower body) is out for the remainder of the 2026 season, per Pete Nakos of On3.com.

Impact Brown was knocked out of Miami's win over Wake Forest on Friday night with what initially appeared to be a serious injury, and indeed, the running back has been ruled out for the rest of the year. That's a big blow to the Hurricanes' backfield, but Miami will continue to rely on Mark Fletcher, Javian Mallory and Girard Pringle at tailback.
