Set to be No. 1 option Johnson is set to be the Cornhuskers' top option in the backfield for the 2025 season, Robin Washut of On3.com reports.

Impact Head coach Matt Rhule said that Emmett is "clearly running back No. 1" and that the only decision that needs to be made is who will back him up. Johnson rushed for nearly 600 yards on 117 carries last season, more than half of which came in the final four games where he took a much larger share of the offense. He also proved to be a serious receiving threat, so he could be in for a big season as the clear top option.

Totals 19 touches in bowl game Johnson posted 14 carries for 68 yards and reeled in 5 of 4 targets for 28 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 20-15 victory over Boston College.

Impact Johnson entered the game on a stretch of healthy touch totals and continued in a sizable role during the bowl game as well. The sophomore accumulated 116 carries for 591 and a touchdown while adding 39 catches for 277 yards and another two scores as a receiver out of the backfield. He will likely remain a major part of the Huskers' backfield equation in 2025.

Staying at Nebraska Johnson won't enter the transfer portal and will stay at Nebraska, per Evan Bland of the Omaha World-Herald.

Impact Johnson originally announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Thursday but instead will stay at Nebraska for next season. He has rushed for 934 yards and three touchdowns across his two seasons with the Cornhuskers and has two years of eligibility remaining.

Though he did not score, it was by far Johnson's best game of the season as he logged season highs in both rushing and receiving yards against Wisconsin. A final regular season matchup against Iowa awaits on Friday as the Cornhuskers finish up the regular seaosn before beginning their bowl game preparation.

Impact Johnson replaced senior Anthony Grant as the Cornhuskers' primary running back Week 8. The redshirt freshman totaled just nine carries across Nebraska's previous three games, but the coaching staff apparently turned to him out of displeasure with Grant's performance over that same stretch -- 32 carries for 94 yards. Johnson still tallied fewer rushing attempts than mobile starting quarterback Heinrich Haarberg (16), who has now logged double-digit carries in four of the past five games. If Johnson once again takes on a bigger role against Purdue this coming Saturday, then he could be locked into a role as Nebraska's RB1 for the final stretch of the regular season.
