Impact For the 2026 Blue Devils' first game, their starting quarterback is Walker Eget, an experienced transfer San Jose State lost last offseason. Until further notice, Mahan's student-athlete career will remain statless. He did not play any of Duke's 2025 games.

Impact Not long after Darian Mensah announced that he would transfer to Miami, fellow quarterback Eget committed to Duke, becoming the odds-on favorite to be the Blue Devils' new QB1 going into their 2026 season. But during the summer, freshman Dan Mahan made a solid impression, giving some competition for Eget going into the fall. However, the senior will be under center against Tulane, and he brings plenty of FBS experience from multiple seasons at San Jose State. This past season, Eget completed 232 passes for 3,051 yards and 17 touchdowns, the first time he separately surpassed 3,000 passing yards and 15 TDs. What the quarterback lacks in his legs, he will look to make up for with his arm.

Even though Eget has been a replacement candidate, he has not been able to prove himself, considering an injured leg kept him out for a long time between his Duke commitment and fall camp. But now that Eget is healthy, he can prove himself, and his advantage over Mahan comes in game experience, having attempted more than 700 passes compared to Mahan's zero.

The quarterback transferred from San Jose State earlier this offseason with the intent to test his skill set at a higher level. In 2025, Eget completed 232 of 393 pass attempts for 3,051 yards and a 17-9 TD-INT ratio. Volume is not a problem for the gunslinger, so his main focuses will be cleaning up efficiency and scoring much more with what should be a better offense, though Duke's strength of schedule may prove to be an obstacle.

Impact Pelino played all four seasons of his college career at Duke, and he's a proven kicker at the CFB level, so he should generate interest if he's given the green light to have another year in the college ranks. It's unclear if he is open to a return to college football, though. Pelino made 77.5 percent of his kicks throughout his college career.
