Impact Lagway lined up under center for the injured Graham Mertz (concussion) and had his way with the lowly Bulldogs. Lagway is an extremely highly-touted recruit, but Mertz played well last season and this was a cupcake matchup, so it remains to be seen who will start at quarterback against Texas A&M next weekend if Mertz is healthy.

Impact Lagway entered the Week 1 contest following Graham Mertz's (concussion) departure, and while Mertz has made some progress in the concussion protocol, it's seemingly growing increasingly unlikely he'll be available for Saturday's contest. Thus, Lagway sits atop the team's released depth chart and appears slated to take the reins under center for at least one week. If he plays well enough, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Lagway to challenge Mertz for the starting job when SEC play opens in Week 3 versus Texas A&M.

Impact Lagway came in to relieve the injured starter during Saturday's matchup against the Hurricanes and could be getting his first start in the upcoming matchup. The freshman quarterback completed 50 percent of his passes for 31 yards and one interception. Although no news have surfaced regarding Mertz' availability, it is easy to speculate he may have to rest a game or two in order to fully recover. The Gators will face Samford at home Saturday.
