Still, he was presumed to be the favorite for the Bears' QB1 job, and now he's lost that competition to a freshman. He'll be the top backup and may still take the reins should Sagapolutele struggle, but will start the season on the bench.

Impact Only a day after Ohio State won the 2025 National Championship Game, Brown has selected his next college. California's quarterback position has been relatively depleted, with Fernando Mendoza committing to Indiana and his 2024 backups also choosing transfers from Cal. Currently, EJ Caminong and other newcomers would be Brown's competition for a QB1 role. At the very least, Brown himself can say he attempted double-digit passes and completed a touchdown pass during each of his last two seasons.
