Impact Mitchell is in his first year with the Longhorns after transferring over from UMass and was one of many high-profile transfers head coach Chris Beard landed this offseason. The first 6-9 junior averaged 18.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.3 steals in 32.2 minutes per game last year but will open up the new campaign on the bench behind Creighton transfer Christian Bishop.

Strong offensively in exhibition Mitchell had 16 points (7-11 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT) and two rebounds across 15 minutes off the bench in Monday's 96-33 exhibition victory over Texas Lutheran.

Impact Mitchell came off the bench with Christian Bishop drawing the start at center, though Mitchell was the more effective offensive option, in addition to being capable of stepping outside for three. Bishop was no slouch, however, picking up eight points on 4-of-5 shooting while also collecting four rebounds. Further complicating matters is the eventual return of Dylan Disu (knee), though a timetable hasn't been established there yet. When Texas decides to go big in 2021-22, however, it will have arguably the deepest and most talented frontcourt in the country.

While he's reportedly expected to play Tuesday, Mitchell's absence from the starting five casts a bit of doubt on that and likely at least signifies it will be limited minutes if he plays. The big man enters the night averaging 20 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.1 steals over 34.1 minutes per game.
