Oakland holds on to edge Detroit Mercy 79-73

DETROIT (AP) — Jaevin Cumberland hit six 3-pointers and scored 24 points and Oakland survived a late rally by Detroit Mercy for a 79-73 victory on Saturday.

Xavier Hill-Mais added 22 points and five rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies (9-11, 5-2 Horizon League). Brad Brechting and Karmari Newman each had eight points and nine rebounds.

Oakland led 39-33 at the break and was up 72-55 with just under five minutes remaining when Detroit Mercy's Willy Isiani sparked a late rally with a pair of 3-ponters and Gerald Blackshear Jr. added a dunk to help the Titans (8-11, 5-2) close to 76-73 with 22 seconds left.

The Golden Grizzlies shot 51 percent from the field compared to 42 percent for Detroit Mercy.

Freshman Antoine Davis, the Titans' scoring leader averaging 28 points a game, was held to 19 points. Isiani finished with 12.
