App State gives basketball coach Fox 2-year extension

Published Jun. 5, 2018 1:32 p.m. ET

BOONE, N.C. (AP) Appalachian State has given basketball coach Jim Fox a two-year contract extension.

The deal announced by athletic director Doug Gillin was approved Tuesday by Chancellor Sheri Everts and the school's board of trustees. Terms were not announced for the extension that runs through the 2020-21 season.

The Mountaineers went 15-18 last season, a six-victory improvement from 2016-17, and earned the program's first Sun Belt Conference Tournament victory when they beat Arkansas-Little Rock in the first round.

Gillin says the program ''has made progress under Coach Fox's leadership'' and that he's ''excited to see what's in store for the future.''
