Impact It's unclear what caused Alajiki to miss his fourth game of the season, as he had scored six points in 19 minutes just three days earlier against Florida Atlantic. Alajiki has essentially been the sixth man this season, recording double-digit minutes in every game he's appeared in en route to an 18.6 mpg average. His absence despite a 10-man rotation Saturday suggests something beyond a rotation-related absence could be in play.

Impact Fortunately for Selden, he sat out only one game due to the undisclosed problem that caused his DNP of Rice's matchup Tuesday against UNC-Charlotte. Now, he can get back to continuing his regular role for the Owls. But unfortunately for Selden, his updated role is not as sweet as that of what he had before December. After starting all but one of the 2023-24 Owls' first six games, he has played nine games since then, none as a starter. Still, Selden played at least 10 minutes all but once across the nine-game span, indicating he can occasionally step up and perhaps have a chance to regain his previous role.

Impact No word of an injury ever surfaced here, but the Rice basketball program doesn't exactly have steady media coverage either. Selden began the season as a starter for Rice, but battled another undisclosed issue that forced him to miss a two-game stretch spanning from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2. Since then, he's appeared off the bench in eight consecutive games, logging double-digit minutes in seven of them. That type of usage makes a performance-related benching unlikely, but we should get a better picture of his status if he appears Saturday at Temple.
