Here's an unexpected truth about Remy Martin after KU Jayhawks' win over Oklahoma St.
Bill Self spoke to both Remy Martin and Dajuan Harris about quarterbacks after KU’s win Tuesday night. Here’s why.

Cleared for Big 12 opener
Kansas head coach Bill Self said Martin (knee) will play Tuesday against Oklahoma State, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact
Martin was limited to just 22 minutes in a Dec. 29 contest against Nevada before sitting out a New Year's Day game against George Mason entirely, but he looks like he'll give it a go for the Big 12 opener Tuesday. A return to practice Monday certainly helped the fifth-year senior's case, as Martin will likely start and resume point guard duties barring any setbacks.

Able to practice Monday
Martin (knee) was able to practice Monday according to coach Bill Self, Gary Bedore of The Kansas City Star reports.
Impact
Martin did not play in Saturday's game against George Mason due to a stiff knee. Coach Self said he is okay health wise going into Oklahoma State game on Tuesday. It appears the Arizona State transfer should be able to suit up.

Won't play Saturday
Martin (knee) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against George Mason.
Impact
Martin wasn't seen in pregame warmups Saturday, and he'll be unavailable due to a tweaked knee. Coach Bill Self said that Martin underwent an MRI that came back negative, so he should be considered day-to-day. Jalen Wilson will take his place in the starting lineup Saturday.

ROTOWIRE
Not spotted in warmups Saturday
Martin (knee) was not spotted in warmups ahead of Saturday's game against George Mason, according to Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal.
Impact
The absence of Martin, who is dealing with a minor knee injury, should open the door for Jalen Wilson in the starting five. If Martin can't play Saturday, his next chance to feature would come Tuesday at Oklahoma State.

Puts game away with big shot
Martin amassed 15 points (3-10 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 7-9 FT), one rebound, four assists and two steals across 35 minutes during Saturday's 80-72 victory over Stephen F. Austin.
Impact
Kansas had its hands full most of the night with the scrappy Stephen F. Austin squad. It was Martin though that made a dagger three with under a minute to go to seal the deal for the Jayhawks. Martin has made so many big shots in his years with Arizona State and now that closing ability is on a team that can win a title. Colorado will be another tough test on Tuesday.

Bounces back from scoreless outing
Martin chipped in 10 points (2-3 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 5-6 FT), three rebounds and five assists across 28 minutes during Saturday's 102-65 win over Missouri.
Impact
Martin has posted two donuts in the coring column this season, but racked up double figures in the other seven games. In this offense, Martin isn't being asked to carry his team in scoring like he did with ASU. While his scoring is down to 10.4 points per game, his efficiency is way up shooting a career-high 53 percent from the field and a career-high 39 percent from three-point range. Martin will continue to get more comfortable and start to increase his scoring output as the season goes on.

Collects 17 in upset loss
Martin accumulated 17 points (7-11 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-4 FT), three rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes during Friday's 74-73 loss to Dayton.
Impact
Martin was forced to play through some back trouble this week but ultimately started the contest and finished tied for the Jayhawks' second-leading scorer behind Ochai Agbaji's 21 points. Through five games, Martin has been tasked with improving his efficiency now that he's no longer the team's primary scoring option -- as was the case through four years at Arizona State. He's effectively seen his scoring drop nearly seven points per game (compared to the last two seasons) as a result, though his rebounding is up, and both his field-goal percentage (51.2) and three-point shooting percentage (37.5) are on pace for career highs.

Good to go Friday
Martin (back) is starting Friday's game against Dayton.
Impact
Martin suffered the back injury earlier this week and tweaked it during Thursday's win over North Texas, but it won't keep him out of Friday's lineup. The transfer from Arizona State has averaged 11.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 26.0 minutes through his first four games with Kansas.

Tweaks back again
Martin (back) notched 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-6 3Pt), eight rebounds and four assists over 29 minutes during Thursday's 71-59 victory over North Texas.
Impact
Martin missed practice time this week due to a back injury but still managed to start the contest and represent one of three starters in double figures. According to Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal, Martin tweaked his back again in this contest, but coach Bill Self anticipates he'll still suit up Friday against Dayton. It appears that barring a significant setback, this will be an issue that Martin intends to play through. Still, it's probably worth the time of fantasy managers to confirm he's in the starting lineup prior to tip-off.

Starting Thursday
Martin is starting Thursday's game against North Texas, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
Impact
Martin was forced to miss four days of practice due to a back injury, but he'll remain in the starting five to begin the ESPN Events Invitational. He's averaging 9.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in 25.0 minutes per game this season.

Will play Thursday
Martin (back) will take part in the ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando beginning Thursday despite sitting out practice the last four days, Sam Lance of 247Sports reports.
Impact
Martin tweaked his back in the team's win over Stony Brook last week, resulting in the senior's worst showing of the young season over 18 minutes. Fortunately, it appears he won't miss any games because of it, though it's worth noting he could have to strip off some rust following multiple absences during practice.

Tweaks back in win
Martin appeared to suffer a back injury during Thursday's victory over Stoney Brook. He finished with no points (0-2 FG), four rebounds and two assists in 18 minutes.
Impact
Coach Bill Self noted after the contest that Martin was hesitant to disclose the injury, but the coaching staff could tell there was something off. Fortunately, he'll have a week to rest before Kansas takes the court next against North Texas on Thursday. Martin will be considered day-to-day moving forward but is not expected to miss any additional time.

15 points in second half
Martin put up 15 points (5-9 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds, and two assists in Tuesday's win over Michigan State.
Impact
Martin got off to a slow start, but came alive in the second half of his Kansas regular season debut. He scored all 15 of his points after halftime and helped the Jayhawks pull away from the Spartans. Martin and Dajuan Harris both started with Jalen Wilson out due to a suspension. Head coach Bill Self has like playing two point guards on the floor at the same time in the past and will likely do it plenty more times this season.

15 points off bench in exhibition game
Martin notched 15 points (7-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt), four assists, two rebounds, and a steal in the exhibition game against Emporia State.
Impact
Martin actually did not start for some reason. Chris Teahan got the start, but played less than seven minutes. With Jalen Wilson out for the first three games, it's likely that either Dajuan Harris or Joseph Yesufu starts along Martin in the backcourt when the season begins. Martin will bring a dynamic scoring punch at the point guard position that Kansas hasn't had since Devonte Graham a few years ago.
