Kansas Lands Former Purdue Star Trey Kaufman-Renn On Eve of 2026-2027 Season
Trey Kaufman-Renn - Signs with Kansas Kaufman-Renn has signed with Kansas, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Impact Although the details of Kaufman-Renn's eligibility remain shaky, the possibility of him logging another year inspired him to pursue it. He was one of college basketball's best players in each of his last two seasons for Purdue. As a junior, Kaufman-Renn averaged 20.1 points and 6.5 rebounds across 36 games with the Boilermakers. During the 6-foot-9 forward's senior season, despite diminished scoring, he averaged 14.2 points and increased his rebound rate by logging 8.3 rebounds per game. Kaufman-Renn could make an already formidable Kansas arguably the strongest team in the country, but it will boil down to how much KU can maximize his availability. Before the 2026-27 Jayhawks begin their regular season, they host exhibition games against Louisville (Oct. 21) and Duke (Oct. 25), matchups that should better indicate whether he can play and what to expect from him.

Impact Thengvall was able to take the court in Kansas' preseason opener. The 6-foot-4 guard has two more upcoming exhibition games before the team's regular-season opener against Fordham on Nov. 2.

Impact Head coach Bill Self relayed the good news, clearing Reeves after his offseason shoulder injury. The 7-foot-2-inch center transferred in from Charleston after averaging 11.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game last season. He's not expected to be a regular starter for the Jayhawks.

Melvin Council Jr. - Back to Kansas Council is going back to Kansas, according to the team's announcement Sunday.
Impact As a senior for Kansas last season, Council was arguably KU's most versatile player. He averaged 12.7 points, 5.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds across his 35 games for the 2025-26 Jayhawks. Council, who transferred from St. Bonaventure to Kansas, won last season's Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Award, so he enters this campaign as an even scarier option now that his skill set has been demonstrated to the masses. As long as Council's availability is not an issue, he will be a top option in college basketball next season.

Impact Reeves had been sidelined for a few months after undergoing shoulder surgery in May, but it sounds as if his recovery is progressing on or even ahead of schedule. The 7-foot-2 big man joined the Jayhawks in the offseason following a single season with Charleston, where he averaged 11.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game across 31 contests. Reeves is expected to be available for Kansas' season opener in early November, but his status will be worth monitoring moving forward regardless.

Impact Council was listed in Kansas' student directory, although the basketball program has yet to confirm his return. What's more, he entered the transfer portal following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. Council's future is up in the air, in particular his future program, but the guard looks poised to suit up in 2026-27. Last season, he averaged 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.1 assists for the Jayhawks.

Tre White - Returning for fifth year of eligibility White will play for Kansas in the 2026-27 season after receiving a preliminary injunction to play in a fifth year of college hoops, Joe Tipton of On3.com reports.
Impact White averaged 14.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.4 blocks per game while shooting 43.5 percent from beyond the arc in the 2025-26 season with Kansas. The senior forward, who will be in his second year with the program, should play a prominent role with the Jayhawks in the 2026-27 campaign.
