Pharrel Payne - College Basketball News & Rumors

Starting after all Payne is starting for Maryland against Coppin State in the Terps' opener, per Gene Wang of The Washington Post.

Impact Payne was previously reported not to be a starter, but that was apparently due to a StatBroadcast error. Payne will in fact start at the five for Maryland in the Terps' opener and beginning of the Buzz Williams era.

Not starting opener Payne isn't part of the starting lineup for Monday's game against Coppin State, Gene Wang of the Washington Post reports.

Impact Payne will come off the bench in his Terrapin debut, as the center followed head coach Buzz Williams from Texas A&M. Payne averaged 20.1 minutes per game a season ago and was initially viewed as the team's top center. However, they'll go small Monday, starting Elijah Saunders at the five-spot.

Impact Payne will hit the portal again after joining the Aggies from Minnesota last offseason. Starting vs. Commodores Payne will get the start against Vanderbilt, Travis L. Brown of The Bryan-College Station Eagle reports.

Impact This will be Payne's 13th start of the season, and he replaces Henry Coleman at the five. The Aggies have tinkered with their lineup the past few games, and Payne is included as a starter in their newest combination. He averages 8.9 points and 4.8 rebounds this season.

Replaced by Washington Payne won't start against Tennessee on Saturday, per Statbroadcast.

Impact Payne will be sent to the bench in favor of Solomon Washington, who will re-assume his role as the starting center for the Aggies. Payne still figures to play a decent role in this marquee matchup, as he averages 9.0 points and 4.8 rebounds across 19.4 minutes this season. However, he'll play said role off the bench for the first time since Jan. 25.

Drops 20 vs. Mizzou Payne logged 20 points (7-9 FG, 6-10 FT), four rebounds, two blocks and one steal over 30 minutes during Saturday's 67-64 victory over Missouri.

Impact Payne's 20-point outing - just the second time he'd eclipsed 20 points this season - was instrumental in helping the Aggies hang on for a narrow victory over Missouri. The forward was deadly efficient from the field and also got to the charity stripe 10 times, his second-highest number of free throw attempts this season. Payne's scoring has been hot and cold this season, but he came through in a big-time ranked matchup.

Starting Tuesday Payne is included in the starting rotation for Tuesday's game against Oklahoma, Travis L. Brown of The Bryan-College Station Eagle reports.

Impact Payne will be making his first start since Nov. 26 during this matchup. The junior center has logged at least 19 minutes in back-to-back games while totaling 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Starting to find groove Payne totaled 15 points (5-5 FG, 5-8 FT), three rebounds and one assist over 20 minutes during Tuesday's 81-69 loss to Kentucky.

Impact Payne was pretty quiet to begin the season, but has now scored in double figures in five of the Aggies' last six games. Transitioning to a bench role in late November took some getting used to, but now he's playing his part very well and is a dangerous player to bring off the bench. Payne will be a critical piece as the Aggies try to survive the gauntlet that is SEC play.

JANUARY 15, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Best outing of the season Payne had 16 points (6-6 FG, 4-7 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and two blocks across 24 minutes during Saturday's 70-66 win over Purdue.

Impact Payne's 16 points were his most in the 2024-2025 campaign thus far, as were his nine boards. The Aggies needed every single one in a narrow victory over Purdue on Saturday. Payne also hit the 20-minute threshold for the first time since Nov. 11. It will be interesting to see if the forward can build off this performance.

15 points in opener Payne totaled 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-5 FT), six rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 22 minutes before fouling out of Monday's 64-61 loss to UCF.

Impact Payne was all over the court, as evidenced by his robust stat-line. The forward fouled out after logging just 22 minutes, and was largely replaced by Andersson Garcia, but still led the Aggies in scoring. That should go a long way to display the kind of potential Payne has as a bucket-getter for A&M this season.
