Pharrel Payne - College Basketball News & Rumors

Cleared to play Payne (leg) is available for all basketball activities, per Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Impact Payne missed the final 22 games of Maryland's season last year after a hot start in which he averaged 17.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists. The 6-9 forward is now fully cleared for the Terps, a huge boost to their frontcourt with the season about a month out.

Receives medical waiver Payne (leg) has received a medical wavier from the NCAA, per Ben Geffner.

Impact Payne previously announced that he would return to Maryland if he were to receive a medical waiver. The 6-foot-9 center will now be able to shift his focus to recovering from a leg injury he suffered last year. The big man will be the starting center for Maryland this upcoming season and looks to build upon the shortened campaign he had with the Terrapins.

Returning to Maryland Payne (leg) will return to Maryland for the 2026-27 season pending a medical waiver from the NCAA, Jeff Ermann of 247Sports.com reports.

Impact Payne has decided to return to the Terrapins for a second season pending a medical redshirt waiver from the NCAA that would allow him to return for a fifth season of college basketball. The 6-foot-9 senior started his career at Minnesota before transferring to Texas A&M before his current stint with Maryland. Payne, who averaged 17.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 blocks across 10 starts this past season, figures to be one of the best centers in the Big Ten next season if he is cleared to play.

Likely out for rest of season Payne (leg) is expected to miss the remainder of the season, Jake Kauderer of 247Sports.com reports.

Impact Payne was not honored on senior day Sunday, and head coach Buzz Williams noted that it was due to the fact that Payne's decision on next year has not been finalized. Payne has now missed 20 consecutive games due to a significant leg injury that he suffered in December. Although the senior played and started in 10 games this season, there's a chance he could get a medical redshirt and return next season. That would be excellent news for the Terrapins -- if he were to choose to return to Maryland -- as Payne averaged 17.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks across 26.8 minutes per game this season.

Sidelined indefinetly Payne (leg) will miss an unspecified amount of time, Jeff Ermann of 247Sports.com reports.

Impact Payne, who had suffered a leg injury last week against the Wolverines, is expected to keep him out for a while according to team sources. While head coach Buzz Williams declined to provide an update, the sentiment is that this injury will hold him out for longer than the lower-body injury he suffered earlier this season. The 6-foot-9 senior transfer from Texas A&M has started in 10 games with the Terrapins, averaging 17.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 blocks on 26.8 minutes per game. The timetable for Payne's injury appears to be sometime in January, with Maryland set to open conference play against Oregon on Jan. 2, shortly after the turn of the new year.

Sustains injury Payne was helped off the court in the first half of Saturday's 101-83 loss to Michigan after suffering an apparent leg injury, Daniel Hager of On3.com reports.

Impact Payne's right leg seemed to be rolled up on during the contest, and he required assistance to exit the court. The standout forward missed a game earlier in the season with a leg injury as well. He generated seven points (2-3 FG, 3-4 FT), four rebounds, two assists and three blocks across 15 minutes before departing. His net chance to play will come Dec. 20 against Virginia.
