Nolan Winter - College Basketball News & Rumors

Starting Saturday Winter (ankle) is listed amongst Wisconsin's starters for Saturday's exhibition game against UW-Parkside, Evan Flood of On3 reports.

Impact Winter, who underwent offseason ankle surgery is back and starting for the Badgers during Saturday's tune up exhibition game against the Rangers. The 7-foot senior, the Badgers only returning starter from last year, will look to anchor Wisconsin down low this fall. Winter averaged 13.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks while shooting 32.6 percent from three across 30 starts last fall.

Fully practicing before exhibition game Winter (ankle) is fully practicing before Saturday's exhibition game against UW-Parkside, according to Zach Heilprin of The Zone.

Impact After undergoing surgery in the offseason, Winter caused at least some concern with his future availability in question, but it looks like that will not be such an issue going into the regular season. The question is whether Winter can go right now, as his availability going into Saturday's exhibition is not guaranteed. It is not the most difficult of opponents for Wisconsin to prepare for, so if he is not good at all this weekend, there is a chance he sits out just a bit more.

Undergoes offseason surgery Winter (ankle) underwent offseason surgery, per Michael McCleary of the Wisconsin State Journal.

Impact Winter disclosed to reporters at an offseason golf event that he underwent surgery on his right ankle after the Badgers' season ended. Notably, that isn't the ankle that caused him to miss four of Wisconsin's final five games in 2025-26. Winter asserted that it was more of a clean-up procedure than anything, and he expects to return to being a full participant in summer practices sooner rather than later. The seven-foot rising senior will be the Badgers' centerpiece in 2026-27.

Available against High Point Winter (ankle) will be available for Thursday's game against High Point.

Impact Winter, who has missed the Badgers' last four games with an ankle injury, will make his return during the first round of the NCAA Tournament against the Panthers. The 7-foot junior has started in 30 games this season, averaging 13.3 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 blocks on 31 minutes per game. While it is unclear how heavily the Badgers will lean on Winter in his return, his availability is huge for a Wisconsin team looking to avenge a few recent early NCAA Tournament exits.

Ruled out Winter has been ruled out of Saturday's matchup with Michigan, Dylan Burkhardt of UMHoops.com reports.

Impact As expected, Winter will ultimately miss his fourth straight contest as he looks to return to full health ahead of next week's NCAA tournament. Austin Rapp will get another start in Winter's absence.

Not warming up Saturday Winter (ankle) is not warming up with Wisconsin ahead of Saturday's matchup with Michigan, Nick Osen of 247Sports.com reports.

Impact While Winter was given a chance to play Saturday in the Big Ten Tournament semi-final, it appears more likely that the center will be held out until the NCAA Tournament next week. Austin Rapp figures to remain in the starting five in Winter's absence.

Officially ruled questionable Winter (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Saturday's matchup with Michigan.

Impact It was previously reported that Winter had a chance to suit up Saturday, after missing Wisconsin's last three games, and he'll officially be a game-time call. The center is averaging 13.3 points and 8.6 rebounds across 31 minutes in 30 games this season.

Still out Friday Winter (ankle) is out against Illinois on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.

Impact Winter has missed the last two games for the Badgers, who are somehow 2-0 in that span despite playing against some of the better frontcourts in the Big Ten in that span. Still, Illinois poses an entirely different challenge as one of the better rebounding teams, particularly offensively, in the nation. Winter is still expected to return for the NCAA Tournament, and even if Wisconsin beats Illinois and advances that may remain his earliest possible return.

MARCH 13 • ROTOWIRE

Out vs Huskies Winter (ankle) is out for Thursday's matchup against Washington in the Big Ten Tournament, per Wisconsin's official team injury report.

Impact The news doesn't come as a huge surprise, as head coach Greg Gard previously indicated Winter is expected to return for the NCAA Tournament, though he did leave the door open for a possible Big Ten Tournament apperance. If Winter is to play in the conference tournament, it will have to wait until Friday's matchup against Illinois if the Badgers are able to hold off Washington.

Exits game Wednesday Winter (leg) exited Wednesday's win over Maryland, Nick Osen of 247Sports.com reports.

Impact Winter was helped to the locker room with just over six minutes left in the second half after coming down hard on a putback attempt. Winter's night is done given Wisconsin's large lead at his time of exit, and his status for Saturday's game against Purdue and the upcoming Big Ten Tournament appears to be in jeopardy at this time.
