Oregon opens first Big Ten season looking for better NCAA Tournament finish

The Oregon Ducks embark on their first season in the Big Ten

Denied extra year Dante has been denied an additional year of eligibility by the NCAA, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Impact Dante only played six games during the 2020-21 season with Oregon due to a knee injury and 12 games in the previous year when the NCAA Tournament was cancelled. Considering this, he has also been with the Ducks for five seasons and the NCAA has deemed his availability within each year enough to say his college career is over. Oregon will appeal the decision, but the chance that Dante will see the court at the collegiate level again is unlikely.

He tied a season high with 15 free throw attempts and scored over 20 points for the fourth time in his last seven games. Fellow center Nate Bittle (wrist) also underwent surgery this week and won't be evaluated for eight weeks, leaving the Ducks severely depleted at the five. Mahamadou Diawara and Kwame Evans will both see significantly expanded roles until at least late-December as a result.
