Nate Bittle opens up about his illness, vows he'll be back at Oregon next season

Out for remainder of season
Bittle (illness) is out for the remainder of Oregon's 2023-24 season, per Matt Prehm of 247Sports.com.
Impact
Any chance of Bittle participating in the 2024 NCAA Tournament is officially dented. The Oregon junior is "weeks to months" away from being healthy, but he is finally going toward that status. At least for Bittle, now there is a good amount of hope he can be ready before the beginning of the Ducks' 2024-25 season. And perhaps better for Oregon fans, he will re-enroll there, ensuring UO a quality center for at least another campaign.

Out again Saturday
Oregon head coach Dana Altman said that Bittle (illness) "is not going to be available again" ahead of Saturday's game versus Washington State, James Crepea of The Oregonian report...
Impact
Bittle was sidelined for about two months after he underwent wrist surgery in mid-November. The 7-foot junior returned to the lineup for back-to-back starts in late January, but he's been dealing with an illness that will now keep him sidelined for the fourth game in a row. Bittle has appeared in just six games this season, putting up 8.3 points and 3.7 rebounds. His next chance to play will come Saturday, Feb. 17 at Oregon State.

Could be available Thursday
Bittle (wrist) could be available during Oregon's game Thursday at Colorado, according to James Crepea of The Oregonian.
Impact
According to Oregon's head coach Dana Altman, Bittle "might play a little bit" at Colorado depending on what his doctors say during their scheduled meeting Wednesday. But while the big man is "getting closer" to full health, he is not expected to play much Thursday. There is also a chance Bittle sits out against Colorado, pushing his earliest return date to a game at Utah scheduled for Sunday. If that does happen, the aforementioned principle will still apply. Bittle "might play a little bit" then but is not expected to do much and may be unavailable entirely.

Not expected to return this year
Head coach Dana Altman mentioned Thursday that he does not think Bittle (wrist) will return this season, James Crepea of The Oregonian reports.
Impact
Bittle is dealing with a broken bone in his wrist and had surgery to get it fixed in late November. He wasn't expected to get reevaluated for eight weeks after the surgery, but Altman said it's been a slow recovery so far and doesn't expect the big man to return this year. Bittle started the first three games of the year before getting injured and averaged 13 points, six rebounds and 1.7 blocks per contest. He should be eligible for an injury redshirt and will look to return to a prominent role with the Ducks in 2024-25.

Out for Monday's contest
Bittle (wrist) will not play in Monday's game against Florida A&M, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact
Bittle suffered a wrist injury in the team's last game against Tennessee State. It's poor timing considering fellow big man N'Faly Dante is dealing with a hamstring injury and is also out Monday. Oregon will hope their two bigs can return for the Emerald Coast Classic beginning on Friday against Santa Clara.

Another big game with Dante out
Bittle registered 21 points (7-14 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 6-8 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists and one steal across 26 minutes during Sunday's 68-54 victory over UCF.
Impact
With N'Faly Dante out for the second straight game to begin the NIT with an ankle issue, Bittle was certainly able to step up and help the Ducks make it to the quarterfinals. He set his career high with 17 points in the opening round against UC-Irvine and then broke that on Sunday against UCF. If Dante is unable to go on Tuesday against Wisconsin, Bittle should be an excellent DFS play.
