Impact Philon was in clear control of the Alabama offense and was able to call his own number repeatedly. The Tide have faced four ranked opponents in a row and are 2-2 in those games. Philon has scored at least 22 points in three of the four games and is averaging 22.2 points on 55.0 percent from the field on the season. A game against unranked UNLV on Tuesday may seem like a break for Philon and the Tide.

The 6-4 sophomore bounced back from an 11-point performance in the loss to Purdue last Thursday. He has scored at least 22 points in the other three games. The brutal Alabama schedule continues on Monday against Gonzaga. Philon is averaging 20.5 points and 5.8 assists.

He hit just 31.4 percent of his 3-pointers as a freshman, so it was good to see Philon show marksmanship from the perimeter. The guard should be ready for a big sophomore season and may think about the next level again after the season.

Alabama faces Florida State in an exhibition match Thursday, at which point we should learn more about Philon's health. At this point, it doesn't look like his availability for Alabama's regular-season opener against North Dakota on Nov. 3 is in jeopardy.

Impact Philon already showed signs of being a star during his 2024-25 season, for which he averaged 10.6 points, 3.8 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.1 three-pointers made in 37 games (29 starts). With the Tide having less experience on their side but Philon remaining as part of their core, he will be asked to carry the load for an Alabama team that expects to remain one of the NCAA's best. In that case, increasing the aforementioned rates should allow Philon to be one of the NCAA's best.
